I mean, the vendors being made aware and the press credentials being approved/sent out isn't a bad thing... It's a sign of life. Hah.

That's pretty much always been my rule. Especially if I'm traveling for it... But if Riot Fest were in my hometown, I'd probably buy a three-day pass blindly every year. The line-ups are always right up my alley.

That being said, I'm honestly with @mattfreaksmeout on this one. Short of a cancelation at this point, I'd be willing to take the risk again next year with booking a trip and such (though I'd probably insure said-trip) so long as the event itself goes off just fine. I agree the lack of communication is a pain, and all but I'd be willing to give them a shot for an off-year as far as roll out goes.

Logistical issues at the event itself (e.g., lines preventing me from getting in on time and the like) is the kind of shit that would really turn me off. Especially given that Riot Fest is a relatively small organization compared to most of the other larger festivals. But like you said... To each their own.

At least you know it's a risk. The fact that people are actually defending Riot Fest for all of this is insane.

And I do recognize I'm in a more unique position with my ability to forgive them (wasn't much trouble to get off work, I live nearby, no kids or anything to worry about, and I get free tickets - although I'm 100% sure that even if I bought my tickets I would still feel the same way about giving them the benefit of the doubt).

Yeah, if I got free tickets I'd go every year no matter what.

But if I found out tomorrow my tickets fell through, my first priority would be to purchase them, even with how things are going this year!

I'm in this weird middle-ground. I'm definitely not mad or upset about it (yet) but I'm a bit anxious, and sort of feeling like "Okay, we get it. Shit happens -- but why not just say something to get people to calm down." Even a quick statement like, "We're working on it, chill" would have done wonders for me. And I really hope they explain at least a little bit about why this was all delayed when it finally comes...

But I'm just as baffled by the people who are losing their minds with rage over it, acting like some major slight has been made to them personally over all this.

What's interesting to me is the people who seem the most like, angry about it are the people who live in/around Chicago. The folks who are flying from elsewhere just seem anxious (and justifiably so).

If I had bought early bird I would have felt screwed by the reduction in price because that makes me feel like a chump.

That's interesting. I'm definitely not angry about it but annoyed.

as a chicago resident, i’m more annoyed than angry over it. not that i have anything else i’m missing out on that weekend, but i don’t wanna end up wasting a three-day weekend

For me it’s about taking off fri and sat which are my big money days as a bartender. That’s why it’s all annoying. I’m not angry about it just frustrated

To be clear, I'm not at all talking about anybody who regularly posts in this thread, haha. I'm talking about people on some of my friend's Facebook statuses and on Reddit.

I would definitely be a lot more upset if 1) there were more must see acts for me this year 2) I had to travel. Like they lst my interest this year unless something wild happens but if its back next year and decent i'd go

Where's that confirmation coming from? 18 isn't quite significant...

You joke, but I’d be so down with that. That’s one of my favorite Green Day albums

I get what he means, but in both cases it boils down to “if you think it’s so easy why don’t you do it”. No one is saying this is easy, but when you’ve been consistent the past however many years without issue and all of the sudden there are major issues, yeah people are going to call them out on it and show concern. Regarding Warped Tour, he is able to say what he said because Sleep On It is on the tour, so he doesn’t have to pay for a ticket. The people complaining about the lineup and even Riot Fest’s major delays are the ones paying their hard earned money to attend. He’s just trying to stop people from complaining and this isn’t the first times he’s done so.

Yeah like people wanting basic things like to know what they’re getting for their money, schedule time off if they’re local, figure out their weekend, is pretty basic with a festival that’s a week away. You have all rights to complain because this is not the norm, and should not be expected. Like it’s not like ppl are complaining bc they hate blink 182, it’s I want to know the basic functioning of the weekend I paid for. He also has kinda been weird about people asking for diverse lineups and in general it’s like. Fans are a huge part of the industry and their feedback is important to improving it. People love to preach music communities until you ask for like at least a handful of women on a lineup and then we know nothing and our opinion doesn’t matter but okay I’m getting off topic here.

Regardless, this is not normal and they absolutely don’t deserve ppl defending them bc this is not the norm and it shouldn’t be. It fucks over both fans and riot fests sales

well everyone, it’s a little past 1am here. time to go to bed and start this all over again tomorrow! i don’t work until noon, so i get to sleep in. that serves no purpose to this comment other than that gives me more time to be knocked out while also giving riot fest more time to announce the rest of their shit while i’m asleep.

    good luck to us all

Somebody on Reddit posted about Atmosphere being on Friday (they confirmed via Facebook). Given that Cypress Hill and Digable Planets are also on Friday, I'm guessing that we'll be having a stage of hip-hop that day...
