I’m taking a class called Literature For Adolescents and one of the assignments is reading poetry for the class and I’m thinking I’m gonna see if I can get away with reading some mewithoutYou lyrics heh. I feel like their lyrics are rare in that they can simply be read aloud and still feel incredibly poetic

I agree! Just depends on how stringent the assignment is but I think it’ll be fine

The key is that it’s supposed to be geared towards a younger crowd I’m thinking something from It’s All Crazy

After giving it a good amount of listens, I think I can say that the 8 songs released thus far from this are all in my top 15 songs from this band, Julia being number 1. Ive been a fan of them for a while but I think the untitled releases are tapping into something that is much more congruent with my tastes then they have been previously.

I always forget their drummer went to the same college as me for grad school, really cool. Doesn’t/didn’t Aaron teach at Temple too?

    I do not exist.

I respect the above opinion but to my ears this release builds off the back half of Pale Horses (specifically Magic Lantern Days and Lilac Queen) and the Appendix.

I also can't judge this EP against songs I've been listening to for 14 years yet but I love that people are loving this release. If they put something like this out 10 years ago some people would have been properly turned off I think.

Yeah the EP doesn't hold a candle to their trifecta for me (B,S, TS, PH) but it's incredible in its own right

for me, its less the quality of the ep and more context that its only been out for a couple weeks in comparison to nearly two decades worth of material.

It's probably my least favourite thing they've put out but I'm much more into their more aggressive stuff and yeah it's been out for less than a month.

most recent is the way he sings "in spite of wonders" in Kristy, if it was any sweeter I would melt on the spot

it wouldn't have occurred to me before this ep/album to call aaron an incredible singer (he's an incredible frontperson, writer, screamer, etc.) but he's really come into his own imo

This is one of the most surprising parts of this whole thing. I've always enjoyed his voice, but I could never call it good until now.

he's kinda reminiscent of Kyle from piano's arc in that respect. he sounds so awesome on the EP

That's a good way to put it and I'd agree, except Brother, Sister was immediate love pretty much the day it came out.

idk what it is about certain songs and especially certain lyrics on the ep making me burst into tears whenever i hear them. but here we are

like "they say he lost his mind / or too much found his mind" and "my frontal lobe is shutting down" in "bethlehem" and literally every moment in "cities of the plain" and "august 6th" just turn me into a huge mess

i react similarly to many of the songs on ten stories and pale horses and brother, sister, but it's never been quite this strong before (ten stories breaking my heart is somewhat mitigated by it being a story)
