Slightly off topic but many of us agree douglas Park is a horrible location for RF. Humboldt Park wont happen again either. So what would be the most ideal location for RF?

So could the permits be a red herring? Sure. It’s still more digging than anyone else has done so far. And on the note of the marathon, I believe it actually takes up less space than Riot Fest so take that for what’s its worth. Insurance is probably what holds up the approval because the park district doesn’t want to be on the hook.

You have to be kidding yourself, though, if you think there’s no chance it’s canceled. We’re 9 days out from the start of the festival and there’s nothing that is expected - no second wave, no daily lineups, no single-day tickets, no aftershows. Communication has almost completely stopped. There has to be more than visa issues holding this up.

At this point I’d actually put the festival being canceled as a higher possibility than it occurring. There’s something extremely off about this year.

I’ve been saying it but it’ll suck - United Center or Sox Park parking lots.

Otherwise you need to move outside of the city.

Well Loufest, a 2 day fest in STL just announced this morning that it is canceled, even though it was supposed to start this friggin weekend. Soooo this shit is gonna be touch and go. I follow both fests and loufest didn’t have nearly the amount of “wtf is happening” that Riot has had (though its social media foot print is much smaller) I’m nervous as hell right now. Not tryin to bring doom and gloom, but just perspective I guess?

I just read their letter. That’s a very honest take on their financial problems.

Still not as bad as flying people to the Bahamas.

The biggest cancellation for me as far as how long before, was hellfest in Trenton being cancelled late night the Wednesday before it started, roughly a day before it was set to start. We had our hotel already, packed, food, alcohol etc. That was definitely the worst one for me, and no one got refunds.

i keep thinking about this post. and i agree with you, i think there’s greater chances of it getting canceled than there is it actually happens.

i already have my air bnb booked and have friday - monday requested off work. so i’ll be going to chicago anyway and trying to make the best out of an entirely open weekend if it’s canceled, but i just would like to know sooner rather than later.

IF Riot were to get canceled, someone should throw a big party for out-of-towners and locals. At this point, I’m flying to Chicago even if it were to get canceled. I have too much money invested into this already. Let’s party.

We all just gather and get drunk protesting the cancellation of riot fest.

hey that sounds like it could be fun: a bunch of drunk people in the same area yelling about something. count me in!

So I noticed that a lot of venues are booked out for the weekend. Sure, it’s likely for aftershows but even the Aragon is wide open. Riviera is, too. This feels similar to when there were shows booked at the Congress and it was shut down so they had to move to other areas. All Time Low actually had an arena booked in the suburbs for that very reason. Makes me wonder if maybe some of the acts have double booked the venues just to be sure.

But if I’m wrong and it’s canceled - let’s all get hammered and go sing karaoke at Alice’s.

Edit: add The Vic to the list as open all weekend.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

I've liked it the past two years, but then again, the past two years are all I've known for Riot Fest, so I don't have a means of comparison. That, and, it hasn't rained the two years I've gone either.

    Lucky you.

I’ll never forget 2014, the mud pits, and the bees. OH THE BEES.

    Those would suck.

I remember hearing rumors that Oz Park in Lincoln Park would have Riot Fest before they went to Douglas. No way would that neighborhood ever allow a music fest like Riot in though.

That park is way too small for the festival.

I never hated Douglas either. Sure it’s out of the way but I hated the set up at Humboldt as well as having to walk half a mile from the entrance to the first stage

Agreed, I just found it funny that it ever came up even though there’d be some many problems from size to neighborhood complaints

Catching up here and I'm pretty sure Kevin's covering Riot this year for the trib so he'd be the person most in the know fwiw.
