I’ve never seen it, but there’s no reason why a 17 year old should be and a 16 year old shouldn’t.

And if a parent has determined that their child is intellectually and emotionally ready to see that movie, and the parent is ready to deal with any questions or consequences, then sure.

I’m going to only chime in with:

Kids should not be brought to R rated movies at the theater. I can’t tell you how many bad experiences I’ve had because some idgit brought their toddler to see a horror movie and the kid was constantly crying/screaming/talking/Running/whatever.It’s distracting and people go to be immersed not distracted. Also there’s the aspect of: you shouldn’t be taking your child into a dark theater to expose them to ghosts/demons/serial killers killing people when they’re like 7.

At home? That’s not my problem and it’s on you if you think your kid can handle it/you can deal with the outcome

Kids are awesome. The conclusion I’ve drawn from your posts is that most parents fucking suck.

Why can a 4’9 16 year old legally drive, but a 12 year old who is 5’9 has to wait 4 more years??

Also, watching a movie is not a skill-based endeavor.

I find it unlikely that an 8-year old is ready for that type of content, but it’s not impossible that one is or that another parent’s definition of ready is different than my own.

Age, on its own, is an arbitrary line to draw.

Because in the law someone else’s safety comes in to play?

Same could be said for kids being exposed to hyper-sexual / pornographic scenes and how that shapes their brains in relation to what they think is normal in terms of relationships.

You’re right. That’s actually a good point that works in my favor. I think your initial argument is under a few assumptions.

    1. Parents are aware of the content of a film
    2. Even if they are aware, they know their children well enough to decide if they can handle it
    3. Are willing to take action if their kid starts acting out

I got news for ya buddy. Most parents suck and are so aloof that they are not paying attention to any of these factors. I’d say that the majority of children are present in an R film simply because the parents couldn’t get a babysitter and are too selfish to just do something else. I mean, regardless of appropriate content, how many rated R films contain subject matter that is going to interest children? Very few and far between. They are often going to get restless cause they’re sitting in a movie they don’t even wanna see! Which then of course leads to them getting restless and disruptive

I disagree with your premise here, which presumes that the theatre’s policy is based on the safety of the children.

I’m watching Mamma Mia for probably the 50th time in the past two months and there are some issues I have with the timeline not syncing up with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’s story (or vice versa).

I’ll expound more on this at a later date.

Going to the theater and properly watching a movie is an art form and a skill

I’m saying kids that grow up with a warped sense of what sex is / what is okay in relation to how we conduct ourselves with others could be dangerous to someone else.
