Not sure that we need to be sharing and analyzing weird FB comments that don’t in any way read like an intentional/direct accusation of abuse.

That's Not Metal podcast is run by three guys, one of whom works within the industry in LA. Apparently the guy who hosts it thinks Brand New may even tour again by the end of the year...

It is, although I didn't listen to that podcast. I wasn't feeling up to listening to it, it was too close to home so I took a few weeks not listening or watching music related stuff. So I don't know much about that.

Hmmm. Kind of makes sense maybe. He mentioned on today's podcast (it's how it came up) that Science Fiction would have been his top album of last year but he changes it cause he know that wasn't "allowed". That said I've never heard him make excuses for abusers or whatever so I dunno if I am just reading into it with that new information.

 

Yeah that was pretty much his take on it last year. Like I can't remember excatly but it was something like that it would've been his album of the year had the JL stuff not come out and that he didn't really want to talk about it as it bummed him out having to discuss stuff like that on the show about someone he looked up to for years. He said personally it's not going to stop him from listening to their albums but he said maybe his views on that would change with time. I may be forgetting something though as this was ages ago now.

I think his general take on the allegations that keep coming out constantly about various artists is that he'd rather not discuss stuff like that on his show in depth as it can be a real downer on what is meant to be a light entertainment podcast (although they do tend to mention them briefly whenever they do if it's an artist they tend to cover). I think the problem with him is that he'll not always word stuff in the best way and sometimes that can come across bad.

Imo it isn't the best of takes but it isn't the worst I've seen either.

Still fuck BN and fuck them even more if they're trying to come back.

 

people who did this were so fucking annoying tbh. if its gonna be your album of the year just make it your album of the year, own up to the fact you champion an abuser dont hide behind your cowardly rhetoric. like *hehe i know its bad to think this thing is good but i think its good but im not saying it because its bad!* fuck that. science fiction wasn't my album of the year because why would my album of the year be a record that makes me physically revolt when i hear it?

 

Yeah, that stuff bugs me too, and not because Science Fiction was my album of the year. It's like when Consequence of Sound wrote an entire article basically saying, "yeah, Science Fiction was amazing BUT we can't officially put it on our list" just to please both sides of the argument. If their goal was really to 'not give praise to a bad person', they should have just never brought it up to begin with instead of half-assing the issue since now everyone knows it would have been real high, which is sufficient enough praise on its own.

 

Anyone else notice how Melanie Martinez is just kinda, still doing stuff? It’s like she faced next to no backlash for actual rape.

Imagine being that fucking delusional. That sub reddit needs shot into the sun.

 

I might be naive but I honestly don’t think they have any plans of being a band again. I mean they were barely a band before and by all accounts were planning to end it. I just don’t see it happening. But again maybe I’m naive.

Summer Salt Sexual Misconduct

Local band that got signed to Epitaph. Saw them a couple times and they always had a big following with younger girls. Multiple accounts of sexual assault. I doubt Epitaph will do anything but hopefully this gets shared and they see it.
