Really excited to hear the Saints traded for Bridgewater. Guess the two backup QBs will now be Bridgewater and Taysom Hill?

I like the deal for Teddy. It’s probably a rental because he won’t stay if Brees doesn’t retire, but it seems they’re all in on this season and if Brees goes down they won’t be screwed.

And if he stays and takes over for Brees eventually then that’s dope cause Teddy is v likeable

 

We clearly arent looking at the same deal. Drew Brees is like a $20mil dead cap hit next year if he retires. For a team tight to the cap, thats a huge hit. And on top of that, they'd be committed to keeping Bridgewater or else...meaning basically all their remaining cap space goes there. Spending easily $40mil in 2019 on QBs and only getting a guy who hasnt actually been a starter since 2015. Or they wasted a 3rd rounder on a guy who doesnt have to stay after this season and who wants to start

And they gave up a 3rd rounder to end up in that situation. Its basically classic Saints...and why they are always in cap hell.

Id be equally puzzled if the Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Eagles, or the other half dozen teams with a locked down starter signed well into the future made this move

 

Also, they traded a first rounder for Marcus Davenport.

That is not smart.

is it a dead cap hit next year? i thought the second year was optional / would have to be picked up for any money to be locked up in it? i assumed that the trade for Teddy was to get him ready for when Brees retired after winning the Super Bowl this year (or going 6-10 because they're the Saints)
