    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

We’ve discussed Op Ivy earlier in this thread and we were certain they were gonna play. We were wrong though...

Rancid is definitely a strong possibility to be 2nd wave, but I don’t consider them big enough to be a headliner

honestly I'd be fine if it's Rancid

I think Riot crowd would rather have Rancid as headliner, even more if they play full albums, than Incubus

Incubus is probably getting the same spot Paramore had on Sunday last year.

Rancid closed out the last night of Camp Punk In Drublic in Ohio, definitely a good headliner in my opinion.

Same. Sadly, it would have made more sense for that to be the case after the announcement. "We'll play, so long as you decrease your ticket prices to $X after we're announced."

It's still definitely a major stretch, though. Hah.

I don't know that people were positive so much as overexcited about the possibility. Haha. All because of some stupid fucking Instagram story post too (the adjectives are there because I feel like it was just taunting me, at this point)...

That being said? I see an OpIvy reunion at a major festival far more likely than an OpIvy reunion tour of any sort, or a Fugazi reunion period...

I was legit surprised that Rancid wasn't part of the first wave, particularly given that one Instagram post by Lars saying "See you in September, Chicago!"

They would be a really fun second wave addition, though I definitely wouldn't peg them as a headliner.

I think it'd be about even. Incubus is definitely the bigger band, and potentially would draw some folks in who wouldn't show up otherwise... But Rancid definitely has a bigger Riot-centric crowd.

As far as an album play? They already did ...And Out Come The Wolves, and in terms of a festival performance? I think that's really the only one a broad crowd wold care about in a major way.

That being said -- If Incubus were to do a Make Yourself set, I bet that would draw quite a bit more than a standard set of theirs.

I was thinking that spot would be better for Young The Giant

Didn't know that, I just checked their tour before posting that and it didn't have a specific day for Riot

I think I will miss them then :(

Although their tour it's better Denver-Chicago-Pennsylvania, than the other way

Had a chat with the girlfriend yesterday and, because of how much of a mess this festival is seeming, we've gone from absolutely going to one day to "that single day really needs to wow us".

    Great work, Riot Fest.

I think they're actually playing Sunday. They're playing Grandoozy in Denver on Saturday, and they start a tour in Pennsylvania the Tuesday after Riot Fest, so I feel like it'd make more sense for them to drive to Pennsylvania then to fly from Chicago to Denver to Pennsylvania, y'know?

Random thought: Have we ever considered Rage Against the Machine as potential? Any reason why they wouldn't have at least been an option?

Prophets of Rage played last year. Their summer tour got cancelled this year so they'd have time to practice and such. The political climate is such that it would make sense for the band to do something to make some noise/a statement... And frankly, the Zach/rest of band relationship has always seemed volatile enough that it may cause a hold-up.

Not suggesting they'll be there, just wondering if anyone here had thought on that before, posed it as a theory, etc. Because it's the one name that feels feasible that hasn't really been tossed around feverishly.

Nah, I feel like a full-blown Rage reunion would be a much bigger deal.

SWMRS are playing in San Diego on the Saturday, so they are flying even further on a one day swing.

I think a RATM reunion will happen at some point. Just not this year. I feel like Zach has more solo stuff up his sleeve first

Yes, but that's their tour. Young The Giant plays in a state near to Chi8cago two days later

    Which days is SWMRS playing?

This would be awesome but I doubt it'll happen this year at least.

To add to list of potential reunions....how about the Sex Pistols? Johnny Rotten has said they've never broken up and would play together if the circumstances were good enough (AKA $$$$$). PIL is on tour but has a break in September. I'm 90% sure this wouldn't happen but just a thought

I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet. My one thought would be that the Prophet tour cancellation might have left them with some time; I dunno.

I can see the Sex Pistols bit happening at some point, and frankly, Riot Fest has a rep for bringing on the bands nobody else seems to be able to (because they offer the right amount of cred with the $$$ most other festivals with a similar vibe can't offer)... So if it happens anywhere, it'd be there.

I honestly wouldn't care at all if that happened. But I know it would be a major deal.

They would have announced this instead of doing $99 tickets.

    Things have changed.

Rage Against the Machine would not be a third headliner at Riot Fest... They'd probably be billed second overall at Lollapalooza right now.

oh for sure, if money is a problem they would've listed RATM on the first wave to get those tickets sold

Absolutely. The sale is truly the biggest sign that there's no third headliner.
