i couldnt give a fuck less what the rollout is like compared to what the actual album itself is gonna sound like tbh. gimme a couple singles or dont, announce it half a year in advance or a week in advance, just give me a good album at the end of the day.

  2. Interesting. I think part of it is that when bands do something really cool, or unique, we started commenting on it. The Radiohead method versus the more common "what every band does" method. I think as sales for rock bands declined we also then wanted to see if there was a correlation between a "roll out" and actual album sales or "hype." One of those things is measurable, the other, I don't think is. I'm actually not sure if "hype" matters except it's probably better to have it than not have it and younger/newer bands more often have it than older, decade old, bands do.

I think for me, I just want to talk about something.
Don’t really know what else to say about the singles except I like both of them.

Because most bands want time to market their new album and sell preorders.

My issues with the rollout also include the fact that I want the record to do well.

  6. I think people are putting far too much correlation between a "rollout" and album sales. I don't think the correlation is as strong as people think it is, I also don't think this is a "bad" rollout or is keeping the band from selling the amount of albums they'd sell in pre-orders regardless of what extra videos they release or don't release. It's a rock band in 2018. They want to release an album and tour. They're big enough to headline their own dates. I think this kvetching is silly.

Pretty sure that the fact that they were returning for their first album after a hiatus had a lot to do with the hype most felt then for TBEITBN. This is different and I'm still hyped as fuck.

I just wish they would pull a kanye and rewrite/record the album 5 times or so between announcing it and releasing it.

I'm most excited for seeing them live on this tour! It'll be hard, but since I'm going to have to avoid set list spoilers :-O

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I really dislike the release of "The Grey" without an album announcement. I get why they did it as they were able to sell the single, in and of itself, and then enjoy album pre-orders once that announcement arrived. The problem is: the early release of "The Grey" made the actual album announcement anticlimactic. A subsequent music video simply wasn't going to sustain enough energy until "Only Us." Without studio videos (which are easier to produce now than ever before), the media has to create enough content to truly promote this record. Luckily, the band has a 2 week window for press once they get back from South America.

You guys saw me posting in all caps for weeks back in February, but now my enthusiasm has waned. This has never happened to me in the weeks leading up until a release. Anyway, I highly doubt they'll release a single without an album announcement to accompany it ever again.

I really don’t get this. The second single was released what? A week ago? And people already want more for an album that’s out in ~3 weeks?

I mean given that their merch site crashed from too many people trying to buy the album when the pre-order launched I don’t think the band have anything to worry about.

I've never made a dramatic statement in response to a post I don't like. I just move on with my day. A lot of people commented about this matter recently, and I continued to think about it (hence my last post). I make plenty of hyperbolic statements about the band and their music (which are true). But, sometimes, I have to relay exactly what's on my mind.

And the album rollout has been fine:

Early June: "Hey, we're not quite ready to announce the album yet but we want to give you something so here's a new song and some tour dates for summer/fall. We'll tell you more soon."

~1 month later: "Hey, here's a video for that song we released last month and our album will be out in 2 months! Order some cool vinyl and shit and don't crash our merch stor . . . oops!"

~1 month later: "Hey, don't forget our album is out in 1 month! Here's another song. Enjoy!"

    Where's the Hype? • chorus.fm

    But, the end result:
But I'm becoming less convinced with time that "hype" is a thing that we can measure and even leaning toward the idea that it's not as effective or needed as a marketing strategy as we once thought. I don't think Alkaline Trio will do better than they would have otherwise because of a short rollout, and I don't think Thrice are going to do worse than they would have if their album was coming out tomorrow.

I don't think they're selling anything less because of how they rolled out this album. I don't think they're gonna sell less albums, less tickets, or lose fans because of it. I think if you're complaining about when you got to pre-order an album, you've got a little too much time on your hands and have our focus in the wrong place. But that's just me.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

It's Thrice and chorus.fm/AP. No one's ever going to be happy until the album leaks or peoples' pre-orders start rolling in.

I wish there was more baseless complaining about the roll out cycle for some of the metal albums I'm particularly excited for. I'd love to have this type of in-depth discussion about the new Revocation, Thou, or Horrendous albums. I mean...Thou only released one single for their new album like 2 months ago, and you didn't see me complaining. Now the whole thing is streaming on NPR.

Disregard the fact they've also put out 3 other EPs this summer.

It's not that I'm disappointed; my excitement just peaked too early, and I pinpointed the reason for it (as have others).

How often do you listen to your favorite albums and think "this record is one of my favorites but it sucks that they killed my hype with a long rollout"? Seriously who cares. There are amazing albums coming out every single week, I can't keep up with them as it is. Keep living your life and I promise you, this record will be in your hands soon.

I think it’s just a silly point to be so focused on. There is so much amazing music in this genre released every week that i don’t care how long this album rollout takes.
