Gman Tavern is hosting a pretty neat show with BK of the Larry Arms and Devin from Cobra Skulls doing solo shit...

Really fucking weird that they're billing it as a "Super Bowl After Party." Not sure what's going on with that. But Riot Fest's logo is on the thing...

I would be so into that!

Also: This is happening. And... Ew. But hey. It's news, right?

I agree with all of this. At this point there are two buckets of people: people who already bought 3 day passes, in which case while this is frustrating, you haven't been lied to (based on what we know now) and you should already have the weekend blocked out so the schedule shouldn't matter that much. Otherwise you don't have tickets yet cus you were waiting for one days, in which case Riot Fest doesn't owe you anything and have no trust to burn.

That's most likely just G-Man's humor. Their Twitter handle calls themselves the number one voted Wrigleyville bar, which if you've spent any time in that area is pretty funny. Tom, the manager is just a really funny guy and it's likely nothing more than that.

That said, it is possible other guests come out. G-Man has good relationships with a lot of artists that are in Chicago and tied to the punk/Riot scene. If that was happening they likely would have added plus guests or with friends.

I mean, I guess this is a cynical perspective (that is, strangely, coming off as optimism here) but... I never assume that any businesses owe me anything unless it's in writing.

Now, if we're one week out from the festival and they cancel it... Or tell us that Blink-182 and Elvis Costello are out and they don't have a replacement? Or the logistics at the festival are garbage? Then I'll be upset.

A lot of what's gone down (or not gone down, as it were) isn't great, and I can see how it's bumming people out and fucking with their potential to make plans but... It's also just the kind of thing that happens on a regular basis with any sort of event. Bands cancel, things fall through, etc.

Might hit up the Spitalfield pre-show. Seeing them at the Gman would be pretty cool.

So what exactly goes down at these Emo Night things? Is it just DJs or are there actually bands playing? I'm old and out of touch.

Makes sense, then. Kinda silly. I'm into it...

I went to a Brendan Kelly "pre-Riot Fest" show there a few years back, and they had Derek Grant playing with him. It was all sortsa fun. Fingers-crossed for Sincere Engineer!

It's basically just people pressing play on a playlist of Panic! at the Disco/Taking Back Sunday/Fall Out Boy/Starting Line/Thursday songs.

OH MY GOD THINGS THAT GOT ANNOUNCED! THINGS!!!!!

Might do that Brendan Kelly show, depending on what other shows are happening that night. Won't be in town until the afternoon of the 14th unfortunately or else I'd totally do Spitalfield too. Gman is awesome, that's where I saw Menzingers do their acoustic aftershow on Sunday and it was one of the best parts of the weekend.

Why pay for a ticket to that when you can just go to Beauty Bar's no-cover Emo vs. Pop Punk nights every Sunday? Ugh.

I also just realized that I will be out of town that weekend house hunting in Virginia so it looks like no Riot Fest for me this year! I'm having mixed feelings about that. :/

Yeah, the people that are upset apparently didn't go to Eaux Claires this year. I'd like to see round two, cause I'd like to see Early Nov added, and I'd like to see set times so I can finalize who I'm seeing. I'm just antsy.

I mean, I went to the one they did at Wrecking Ball ATL and that was "fun enough" because I was in town, anyway. You basically hang out, shooting the shit with your friends, and drink alcohol while listening to music that's more your taste than the average music they play in a bar.

Also: Yay for house hunting, boo for no Riot Fest!

I keep thinking about the Eaux Claires thing, and there's no fucking way I would ever go to a festival without a line-up announced. I get why they did that, and I understand why people go but... Not for me. Too much risk involved.

The difference there is that people knew they weren't going to get a line-up.

I get why people are bummed out, and antsy (perfect word for it--and how I'm feeling), but some of the people who are already going and freaking out about the lack of new bands or whatever? I dunno. Just feels overdramatic to me.

I always get super excited about festival schedules, so I'm probably most looking forward to that.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous... Pussy Riot DJ set on Thursday, September 13th at Berlin. Not billed as being Riot Fest affiliated, but still.

Either we're getting close to an actual announcement (e.g., today or Monday/Tuesday next week) or a bunch of local venues just said "fuck it."

EDIT: Also, apparently that Face to Face show at Cobra Lounge was canceled.

Yeah Tom and Brendan have pretty similar senses of humor, which is what that title reads like to me.

There is a pretty endless list of people that could swing in there for something at any point just based on their proximity, but if they had someone else for sure they would have had some kind of notation for it. I suppose that could change between now and the show too. Of bands playing Riot Fest, I'd keep an eye out for Dillinger Four hanging out there or performing at some point. One of their side bands, Butcher's Union played there in March.

I loved catching Menzingers at Gman last year mostly bc they had Labatt Blue. I always forget when I’m traveling that isn’t going to be in every bar.

Rad! I may wind up going to this...

I'm really, really hoping for some combination of a Lagwagon/Dillinger Four/Bouncing Souls after show (assuming it would only be 2/3 of those bands) at some point during the weekend.

Really? I feel like most places at least have it in a bottle or can. That's odd haha.

Yeah, I live about ten minutes from the EXC festgrounds and my friend has a parking space for me that's closer than most paid ones, so going is a no-brainer regardless of who's playing for me. Traveling to Chicago or something would be a lot harder if I didn't know what I was getting into. Pretty much all of the artists were leaked, which inevitably left people with a sour taste in their mouths as they were expecting there to be something unexpected. It was a great time though.

Lagwagon, D4, Souls, Face To Face all have a tie back to G-Man in a Kevin Bacon sort of way, if not more directly. Not saying they all would play of course, but I could easily see any of them doing an acoustic set there. It's just that kind of spot with their history and their connections. I would advise anyone that's out of town staying near or close to that bar to make it the hangout bar after Riot if they aren't doing an after show elsewhere. If you're ballin on a budget, you can't beat their $3 PBR draft, $4 Old Style, $5 beer of the month draft, or their discounted drafts they are trying to get rid of. For that part of the city, it's hard to drink much cheaper and have a better atmosphere.

I'm pretty sure Mark Rose (Spitalfield's singer) has some kind of a working relationship. I know that he promotes some shows there.
