    Disagree.

Grand Paradise, Won't Drown, Slapstick, and Nearer my God are my favourites from this.

disagree that this is a big step up? I don't know if I like this one more or not than Dealer but I think musically this does way more and is way more diverse. I'll always love how streamlined Dealer is tho.. albatross is a young band showing potential and writing great emotional raw songs. not on the level of the other two but still fantastic.

I don't think this album is better than either of their other two previous albums. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant.

I think it’s the most well produced song on a record full of well produced songs

Man, Five Cups really could use a bit of trimming. Think that's a huge misstep in what should be a fantastic song.

The Albatross is their Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers. Very good, I love it, but what came after is some of the best stuff in music period.

you may not like this album as much as the last but its pretty undeniable they're pushing themselves artistically to completely new and ambitious places

I really like the ambiance of Five Cups. It's a little sonic world (like all the songs, but you know what I mean). It doesn't SOUND like this at all, but it does the same thing for me that Descensus does. It pulls me in and lets me hang out for a while without demanding my attention.

this might be a dumb thought but im gonna say it anyway.

A few people have said they wish Five Cups got trimmed to be a little shorter, and i get that opinion from a listeners perspective, but i also totally get why they made it so long from a recording perspective. There is just something soooo satisfying about making long ambient music when you're recording. Like sometimes when im dicking around recording ill record minutes of just ambient guitar noises just because it sounds so pretty to listen to, even if im able to realize "if i actually showed this to someone they may not find this as exciting as i am right now"... i dno, there is just something really satisfying about those kind of textures and stuff in the recording process and at the time i never want to trim them down haha. That being said, i personally like the ambient long section of Five Cups, but yeah i get why some people wished it was shorter. Mad respect to the band for keeping it in there imo.

Yeah, looking at it from that perspective has made me appreciate that kind of music a lot more actually.

I feel this. I feel like if you're actively listening to the entire song it can run on longer than you want it to, but if you kind of zone out and just glide along with it it's so satisfying. I listen to a lot of music in the car and a lot of times I'm not completely dialed into what I'm listening to, compared to sitting down with a nice pair of headphones and really taking it all in.

From what I’ve read they had the first part of five cups and said it didn’t feel finished so they just kept adding on it and it somehow came out to that length. You can kind of feel that in the natural flow of the back half, it kind of drifts along but it’s not aimless, it’s interesting

I also think the first half of Five Cups sounds like the most reminiscent of a "pre-NMG foxing" song on the album

idk i love getting lost in the back half of five cups, and then heartbeats starts and i'm back fully engaged until the end of the record.

I generally like ambient moments in music, but I just think there's something not quite there with Five Cups. It's a really great song, just jarring in a way. I get the feeling they stumbled on it and it works to an extent but could be amazing with some tweaking.

    Lich Prince
    Bastardizer

    Lambert
    Five Cups
    Crown Candy

    Definitely subject to change

If "Five Cups" didn't continue like it does I can almost guarantee there would have been an interlude/intrumental track right after it. We got "Winding Cloth" in Dealer and "Calm Before" on Albatross. The continuation of "Five Cups" serves a similar purpose.

    Cursed by my ancestry

Spent last night playing along to this on guitar and working parts out. Very fun riffs on here.

Five Cups and the atmosphere it creates feel like the closest this comes to the back half of Dealer, imo. Not a bad thing either.

Yeah I thought this too. It really wouldn't be too out of place on Dealer.

such a hard album to rank, it's so good overall. lich prince and won't drown are pretty much tied. anything between gameshark and lambert could be interchangeable. crown candy and trapped in dillard's are still both amazing songs.

i also gotta say i really appreciate the flow and tracklisting of the album, i don't think i'd change anything, and it really makes the songs work even better in context. i also really love how conor has a different voice for each song.
