New Zealand accents are so cool to me. Most European accents sound so much more appealing to me than American.

I'd say it's the perfect movie to watch that way. While I don't recall ever seeing a movie for the first time in this technique, I have watched horror movies like this and it seemingly pulls me in more. Feels much more effective if you're in a dark room.

Able to do it with wireless/wired headphones from the tv? One good thing about my PS4 is the headphone jack is at the bottom of the controller so I can plug it in there.

Exactly how I do it if it’s late and I don’t want to wake the fam but still need the sound to be on point.

first time viewings for horror movies always require a dark room for me. repeat viewings can be whatever, but that first viewing has to be a dark room to assist with the atmosphere / build.

hmm. i didn't even consider this. i have some bluetooth headphones that may be able to connect to it. it is a smart tv after all so hopefully it has that feature. and now that you said that i wonder if that's what the headphone jack has been missing from every tv made after 2010 lol. i always get so pissed when i get a new tv and it doesn't have a headphone jack (2-3 tv's since 2010, i have bad luck it seems) because that's how i always used to watch most movies / play video games. i wonder if they got rid of it because everyone uses fancy wireless / bluetooth stuff and i'm still thinking in terms of 2007 technology.

I've had my flat screen for so long. The Bluetooth function broke and I'm too far away for a wired connection so luckily, and thankfully, my PS4 can provide this. Helps so much with gaming and other entertainment. Hopefully there's another option for you since A Quiet Place is just beckoning for silence.

Boss has been/is out of town for the week and Today is my last day before going out of town myself, so Now I’m posted in his office with all the lights off watching The Wailing, and drinking coffee. Only 40 min in, but it’s really good!

  16. Watched House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects for the horror movie podcast I'm doing (!!!). Gotta say, after being so unimpressed with my Halloween revisits and Lords of Salem/31, the grindhouse, Tobe Hooper-worship of these movies still holds up the majority of the time. I personally prefer HO1C, but they're different movies with different merits (and flaws) that remain interesting to me considering how many grindhouse revival flicks they probably inspired. Only films off the top of my head I'd compare to music videos in a non-derogatory way.

The zoom in the pool scene is one of the most memorable “jump scares” I’ve seen in a theater

    Quick updates:

Thought Green Room was okay, could’ve been better but was still good. I kept feeling sad/bummed thinking about Anton’s passing.

I liked The Wailing . Way different vibe than I was expecting, in a very good way. Really enjoyed the actors.

Currently watching The Voices (45 min in) for the first time. Digging it so far. Read that Ben Stiller was originally up for lead role in 2010.

And finally, I still stand by my initial reaction on The Strangers 2. And will probably enjoy it more when I watch it again around Halloween time.

P.S. I recorded Happy Death Day last week, but am having second thoughts. Is it worth a watch or a waste of time?
