Black Honey is cool. Probably in the lower half of their catalogue for me. I like The Grey significantly more.

I don't think it's in my top 3 but it's grown on me immensely since it came out.

    1) Beggars
    2) Daedalus

That cover reminds me of how much I want a greatest hits record (in acoustic arrangement).

Fair enough. I just think the execution of the analogy was pretty flimsy.

It’s a fine song, but you won’t see me using any snippets of the lyrics in some stylized Instagram post of the vinyl.

I'm sure I'm the only one, but the video for "The Grey" just doesn't work for me. Most of all, it doesn't feel quite like Thrice. I'd really like the next one to go back to basics –– even if it's "In Exile"-type basics.

The video for The Grey seemed perfectly reminiscent of the video for Image of the Invisible.

Image's video felt like Thrice –– not just because they were in the video.

  24. If after all these years people are still trying to define what is or isn’t or what feels like “Thrice” or not ... I feel like you’ve missed what this band has been for a decade.

I don't like the video, sorry. It's the only video they've ever made that doesn't look and feel like Thrice. They received a bunch of treatments while on tour, and they green-lit one to be filmed without them (since they were on tour). "Black Honey" was a markedly different video for Thrice, but it felt like Thrice since it was shot in our backyard amongst other things. It helps that they're in the video, sure, but the vibe is still Thrice. I want their fingerprints all over everything they do. I'm fine with standard 3rd party treatments as long as the group gets a chance to make their own impact, large or small.

With 'The Grey," a director got to fulfill his own artistic vision, first and foremost –– and make a Thrice music video second.

I realize that nobody agrees with me, but I had to purge these conflicted feelings.
