That loneliness is not a function of solitude.

I totally believe that Brand New would announce their break-up two years ahead of time lol. I've seen no evidence to suggest that these guys WOULDN'T do something like that.

i agree. i don't understand why you'd announce something so far in advance. things can certainly change and it's hard to gauge what you may feel in a year or two. they've always operated in a way unlike any other band. they're going on 7 years between albums and have had years of complete inactivity. i'd much rather them not call it the end of the band and just let them do their own thing (like they've always done). tour when they feel like. release music when they want it. do what they what when they want to. to call it the end puts an unnecessary finality to it, in my opinion. anyway, i'm grateful to have had this band in my life since their beginning. they've meant so much to me for so long, it's just a bummer that the end is in sight.

While it sucks to see the 2000-2018 on shirts now we all saw this coming since the lyric books last year. Not a huge surprise.

I got thinking this morning, if Daisy was better accepted initially by fans does anyone think their career post Daisy would have been any different? More albums etc.

No. I don't. I think the band is just burnt out and as I stated previously, the band is not their first priority and hasn't been for a long, long time. I remember Jesse saying the making of Daisy was very exhausting and there were times during the recording process where they weren't even all that determined to finish the album. I just truly see Brand New being a hobby for most of those guys and when it starts to feel like work, they don't care for it anymore.

To me, what they've done over the past 6 years or so - touring wise - has been kind of cool. Only doing a few select shows here and there. It makes it more special for the fans to get to see them. I know for most of the times I've seen Brand New, I have to travel out of state or 3-4 hours within state to see them and it just makes it more special. More of an EVENT to see them and not just a typical concert experience. I feel they design it that way because they still get to live their lives as people and not as full-time Brand New band members.

I want really badly for this to be the only announcement the band ever gives about this. In 2018, they just go dark - no more Internet presence, no more touring, no more anything. Just leave, be done, and let people endlessly speculate.

That would be the most Brand New way that Brand New could break up, ever. And then Jesse can give an interview in like 2035 and be all indignant -'guys, we made a literal sign with the date. What more could you want?'

This is how it needs to end.

I don't know how significant this is, but Daisy charted as high as #6 on the Billboard chart in America, whil TDAG only got to #31. I'm not sure how that translates into album sales, but I'm not sure that Daisy had a bad reception. Maybe from some super fans or something, but that happens with everyone. I think Daisy was - relatively speaking for a band this size - a hit.

Despite charting higher, Daisy actually had lower first week sales than TDAG. Don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think Daisy was like 46K and TDAG was around 60K (first week sales). The fact that it charted higher just shows how much album sales had decreased in that amount of time and it took fewer sales to get into the top 5 or 10 on the Billboard Charts.

    Thanks for that.

The question, of course, is which tells the more accurate picture. Relatively to their peers, BN sold more with Daisy; in real world dollars, they sold more with TDAG. Which would be more indicative of 'success'? I could argue and be swayed either way.

I think, though, that when you have a top 10 record in this country, it's tough to call that record a poorly received one. In my opinion.

Oh, there is no doubt they became a more popular band after Daisy. Just being in the Top 10 on the Charts (regardless of the amount of sales) is huge exposure because most media outlets report the top 10. Plus, they started playing WAY bigger shows after Daisy. Before Daisy, I was seeing them in mostly House of BLues type settings. Around the release of Daisy, they were playing 5-10K shows.

I don't really consider Daisy being poorly received at all. I mean, fans may have had mixed reviews, but it helped launch them more into the 'mainstream' and by that I don't mean radio or MTV play or anything, I just mean, more people/media outlets started paying attention to them.

That's what bugged me a bit about RX Bandits' 'farewell' a few years back. It didn't have the same feel as Thrice's "hold on, we'll be back in a while" thing, and yet they came back a few years anyway. I'm glad they did, as my avi might imply, but I don't really get the point of saying you're done when you aren't.

They sure know how to add more speculation and intrigue with their merch. May have to pick up one of these shirts.

I would assume Jason would have a far better feel about this being true or not more than any one of us on here. I just find it strange that a band calls their break-up 2-3 years in advance. No one can tell the future. As I said previously, what if 2017 is just astonishingly great for the band, and it gives them more life or a new found love for playing/making music? It's just really kind of ignorant to call your break-up years in advance.

And who's to say they won't want to pick it back up a year or two after 'breaking-up' in 2018?

I don't know. A part of me just isn't buying this. Doesn't make sense to me.

To me, the most likely scenario is that they've heard all the rumors about them breaking up in 2018 and they found it funny so they're kind of going along with it. I mean, think about, how many insane fan theories has their been about EVERY little thing Brand New has ever done. I'm sure the band sees some of that stuff and just sits back and laughs at it.

  20. My argument against that is that they created the rumors when they sent out a sticker that literally said: RIP Brand New 2018

True. So yes, they created it. So that part of my comment is invalid. I just think it's really, really strange to plan your break-up three years ahead of time (I believe those were sent out in early 2015?). All I'm saying is, you (they) never know what can happen in that time frame that could change their plans/mindset.

Maybe in 2018 they're just releasing a Greatest Hits Album titled '2000-2018'...

    Anyone ever think of that???

tbh breaking up in 2018 and literally "staying 18 forever" would be fucking genius haha not to mention so very brand new of them

Also, I'm seeing them in June and I'm probably gonna weep the entire time.
