Facedown is slowly becoming what Tooth & Nail used to be for me.

Did you hear how he's going to release a remastered The Medicine, a Christmas album AND a new record beginning of next year?!? He's putting in work haha and has got me excited!

I DID NOT HEAR THIS! WOW! Take all my money now. I'd only heard about the remastered version of The Medicine.

Just put out a new song. Thoughts?

Just had a listen - I really like this one too. It reminds me of some of the early Sinai Vessel releases and then your voice has a kind of Andy Hull vibe in places.

I haven’t listened to Sinai Vessel before. Where should I start? And yay for the Andy Hull vibes! That wasn’t my intention but I’m down for that comparison.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

Relistened to this song and I moved from really liking it to thinking it was actually pretty awesome. Well done.

I just listened to Sinai Vessel and your song is actually better than anything I was thinking from him/them. It was more his acoustic EP from 2010 that I was remembering (songs like O Creator (acoustic) and Least Likely of Places. It was more the atmosphere you create I think. But I prefer your voice actually and I really like the guitar on your track.

Incidentally, you may actually be more interested in the Sinai Vessel album from last year titled Brokenlegged. They'd transitioned to a full band set up and it had a totally different vibe (some were throwing around Death Cab and Manchester Orchestra as comparisons and there are similarities but I don't want to build it up as I don't think it had as much lasting power). It may suit your tastes though. Or it may not! Here:

(Can't find any of their old stuff on Youtube but just rest in the fact that when I listened this morning I preferred your song!)

Man, seriously thank you. So much.

I actually checked out that album from Sinai Vessel after you mentioned them and I really really dig it. Only got through half so far but I love the more raw recording with the tight sound. Actually really encouraged me because I can get discouraged about my stuff not sounding “professional” enough (which someone said to me) and I have to remember that some of my favorite music doesn’t sound professional.

I never try for a particular sound with a song, but this one in particular was really inspired by From Indian Lakes. The song itself is actually two years old so I can feel more critical of it but I am excited about this recording and the positive feedback is super encouraging.

Oh yeah, I totally can hear some From Indian Lakes in this - another reason why I probably like it!

I'm definitely in the camp who prefers raw recordings where you can feel the emotion - particularly with a singer / songwriter rather than full band situation. I'm really drawn to what you've done so far so definitely keep at it! There may be the time for proper professional recordings down the line but for the time being, I think what you've put out sounds great and shows who you are as an artist.

I'm going to try and play the songs for my wife in the next few days. If she likes it you're definitely on to a winner, haha!

It’s so odd hearing Sinai Vessel being talked about online because I grew up and played in local bands with their old drummer and almost dated Caleb’s sister. I never met Caleb but I know his family is really religious so there’s a good chance he is as well.

That's pretty cool. The first few Sinai Vessel releases are very religious so I think that's a safe bet. Listen to the Creator EP (or the Acoustic EP) and you'll see some heavy spiritual lyrics. I think I first heard about the project on Indie Vision Music. Obviously they've moved in a different direction with lyrical content now and I have even less knowledge of where he's at currently, haha!

Okay, so I probably did see their name on Indie Vision. I was trying to figure out why the name Sinai Vessel is so familiar when the band is so small. I think between IVM and Audiotree I’ve seen the name a lot.

I know he moved to TN and the band is basically his own thing after the original drummer and bassist left. It’s probably just one of those instances where the musician’s personal beliefs don’t change but they want to widen themselves lyrically and dive into new topics.

This is a brilliant blog written by Mark Nicks of Cool Hand Luke about the first show that they ever played, which was apparently 20 years ago. A fun read!

DEFINITELY for fans of Paramore. Like. Very much so.

But holy cow that's good. It sounds like the direction I always wanted Paramore to go. The more alt rock direction.

Listening to the rest of the EP now and it definitely distinguishes itself more from Paramore. This is awesome stuff.

Is it just me or has Norma Jean been pumping out albums? I need to get better acquainted with their discography. I've always thought they're great but just haven't listened much.
