It's at Jim's party and Ryan asks him during the apartment tour and Jim's like, "let's not talk about that right now" iirc

Ryan also asked Karen out via email sometime in S3

Okay, scratch what I said earlier about Ryan and Pam. This is what I was thinking of.

  7. FTank

Well, he did also ask Pam out early in S4 before he knew she and Jim were together

Considering BJ had more creative control since he was a writer/producer early on, I'm guessing it was his choice to slowly turn Ryan into an unlikable guy considering he starts off as the quiet temp

and it worked because Ryan turned into a (somewhat) memorable character. if his character had stayed what it was i imagine most of us would have to think for a second about who Ryan was. and he does have some great lines in seasons 6-7 (and maybe later seasons too, can't remember off hand) that i laugh hard at, even though i usually find him "meh" for his jokes / gags

i also LOVE when he tries to convince Dwight that they should recreate the Saw movie with Jim and Dwight looks at him like he's talking to a toddler. just the best faces there :crylaugh:

Ryan was the worst regular character of the entire series

Ryan definitely took a downturn in the latter half of the series, but I could never stand Erin. She annoyed the shit out of me.

Ryan was a great character. Terrible person, but one of the funniest characters consistently. Erin annoyed me a lot too

i agree Ryan was the worst of the regular characters. i think most feel this way because he doesn't have the quirky or lovable qualities of the other characters. he's just there, with no long-term personality (seems to change every season or two) while everyone else has their insanity on display in brilliant moments.

they tried to make him the straight man like Jim, but when you already have Jim no one wants / needs Ryan to do that too (and much worse than John mastered Jim)

Ryan was great at the beginning when he was just the business-savvy, normal guy observing how fucking ridiculous the people he works with are and just not wanting any part of it. But then they turned him into some dumb, hipster jackass who just treats everyone like garbage and that totally ruined it for me. Basically, after he's arrested is when he stopped being an enjoyable character, with his decline starting with his promotion to VP.

Also, I hate how hard the show pushed us into rooting for the Erin/Andy romance and then totally messed it all up and turned Andy into a bigger dick than he was in the beginning of the show.

I love Erin though. Her and Michael celebrating when Holly wasn't engaged was one of the greatest moments in the show lol

a line that gets greatly overlooked because of another great line takes place during her Secretary's Day lunch with Michael.

everyone knows and loves the line, "in the foster home my hair was my room" while Erin shovels hair in front of her face, but a little bit before that she says, "My last job was at a Taco Bell Express. Then they became a full Taco Bell and I don't know, I just couldn't keep up." and that line and visual just slays me :crylaugh:

Oh and can we all agree that Nellie is one of the worst additions to the show and having her take over as manager of the Scranton branch was a huge mistake?

Season 8 Nellie is easily the worst character of the whole series. She's not good in season 9, but was a bit more tolerable.

there were times when i'm like, "wow. i actually didn't hate her (Nellie) there" and then there are times when i can feel my blood pressure rising as soon as she's in view. just so much inconsistent writing for that character. it was mind-blowing how badly written and added in she was at times.

They tried to do a character you love to hate and failed miserably. I already said it a page or two back, but Charles was written like that perfectly.

agreed with how Charles was written but for me personally i could never hate Charles because Idris is a badass so i was always gonna be a fan of him no matter how he was written / acted lol although still giving Jim shit in "Company Picnic" was ridiculous and served no purpose except for a funny Jim face
