She got a call at 6 a.m. one morning from a colleague at Re/Max telling her something terrible had been posted about her on the Re/Max Facebook page. [Monika Glennon] thought at first she meant that a client had left her a bad review, but it turned out to be much worse than that.

It was a link to a story about Glennon on She’s A Homewrecker, a site that exists for the sole purpose of shaming the alleged “other woman.” The author of the Homewrecker post claimed that she and her husband had used Glennon as their realtor and that everything was going great until one evening when she walked in on Glennon having sex with her husband on the floor of a home the couple had been scheduled to see. The unnamed woman went into graphic detail about the sex act and claimed she’d taken photos that she used to get everything from her husband in a divorce. The only photo she posted though was Glennon’s professional headshot, taken from her bio page on Re/Max’s site.

Glennon was horrified. The story was completely fabricated and she had no idea why someone would have written it. Someone on Facebook named Ryan Baxter had posted it to the Re/Max page; Baxter also went through Glennon’s Facebook friend list and sent it to her husband, family members, and many of her professional contacts.

[...]Eventually, after $100,000 in attorney’s bills, Glennon was able to unmask the culprit. It turned out to be a complete stranger who had been offended by a comment Glennon had made about a news article on Facebook.

This story is ... my god.

 

Shit like this is so scary. I remember hearing a story years ago about a piece of shit who was mad at his ex-girlfriend for breaking up with him that he posted an ad on craigslist saying that she was into domination and posted her address and in invite to just show up and have sex with her. Obviously, turns out that it wasn't true that she was into it and a guy took it as real and showed up and raped her. It was disgusting.

They do seem to nominally have many left-wing positions but I think basically every position other than being anti-immigrant is contested within the party to some degree

It's in their "directory" for podcasts (separate from Apple Music) because anyone can submit an RSS feed, which is hosted by the podcast maker, to their directory and it'll get put in. Spotify, however, is curated. They only take certain podcasts, and like the tweet said, it's hard to get into that group. You gotta be big. I think they rehost your files as well. (For example, they would't ever list Encore. I submitted it at least a half dozen times and got rejected every time.)

 

And why don't they just take everybody's podcasts? What's their reasoning for only taking a small number of them, that are just big?

 

The answer to all of these kind of issues/questions is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

 

No idea. It fucks up the entire point of podcasts: They're open and not centralized. It's garbage only working with "aggregate partners" and truly ruins the entire point of what makes podcasts great.
