Ya this is concerning even at smaller levels. I've seen changes in friends and myself once we started making enough money to be "comfortably" financially independent. It gets worse once kids start coming. Suddenly time and money that went to charity goes into a trust fund or college fund.

 

You say this as if it's a bad thing to save money for your children.
