He’s a pioneer of stop motion/claymation in monster movies.

The original Clash of the Titans and 7th Voyage of Sinbad are two movies that I have very fond memories of that he did visual effects on. He has a very iconic, inimitable style. Although the movies he worked on look very obviously silly to some people, they have an undeniable charm due to his vision.

There’s a nice documentary about this work that I enjoyed. The trailer almost seems to focus more on how influential Hollywood people feel about him, but the doc covers a lot of his work and does some deep diving into the production of nearly all of his visual effects work.

I don't know if I can agree to that, but I will share this nugget: I distinctly remember having my parents drop me off at the movie theater, by myself, to go see Godzilla 1998 on the night of a semi-formal dance at my school, and my parents kinda being like "hey are you sure you wanna go to this movie alone instead of, you know, a dance...?" and me being legit flabergasted that such a question would even be asked. My response was basically "Guys, this is Godzilla."

I grew up on VHS tapes of Godzilla films and remember being confused when the American Godzilla appeared. I was expecting something like what was on the VHS tapes but it didn’t stop me from getting light up shoes and pajamas.

Did anyone else have the Godzilla board game where you would squish Playdoh cars?

I had a birthday party where we all went to see Godzilla 1998 and then tried to pretend what we saw wasn’t garbage. Then we went to the mall and my friend stole a bunch of “South Park” stuff and tried to get us to buy it off of him.

Bottom line - Godzilla ‘98 had a killer soundtrack.

Haven’t seen it since and plan to keep it that way

I saw Godzilla 1998 at the movie theater in Downtown Disney Orlando after a morning at Magic Kingdom. What a wild day that was.

Final Wars is such a terrible movie but that scene makes me laugh every time I watch it

I too saw Godzilla for a birthday party. The birthday boy cried afterwards because a piece of his newly opened Godzilla action figure (some random soldier) went missing
