This was really good. The scene with the car parked outside their house - oh man. That was something else. I kept thinking that it was a dream (like some horror movies would do) and there was no way they would commit to that turn of events, but they did and it just kept getting heavier and heavier.

Not the best crowd though. The couple who sat next to us came in late and started flirting and tickling and scaring each other when they came and everyone had to shush them. A bit petty but it was so satisfying to see them, minutes later, realize that this wasn't the cookie-cutter cheap thrill they were expecting so they spent the rest of the movie buried in their phones and whispering how the movie was taking so long to finish.

I was just talking to my friend about that yesterday. Why do people suffer through movies they don’t enjoy and, in their suffering, annoy other people??? Just fucking leave!!!!!

Every seat should have a discrete button to report people who are being idiots and then offer free tickets for people who complain the issue wasn't resolved.

At Alamo Drafthouse you write down your food order on a piece of paper that the servers pick up and you can also use this to discreetly report people who are annoying. It’s pretty great.

I have a buddy who always asks for an assisted listening device (read: headphones) cause it drowns out the sound around him lol

That's a great idea, but I'm not a big fan of food or drinks being ordered and served during a movie in the first place.

Outside of the restroom or emergencies, I don't like people going in and out of the theater at all. I know that's not realistic, but it's just how I feel about it.

I mean at places like Alamo Drafthouse they've designed it so it's pretty much as non-intrusive as possible

I saw this last night and will post thoughts when I’m at a computer, but re: the discussion of the best horror movies since 2000 that bubbled up on page 30ish...The Descent (original ending) feels like a glaring omission from many lists. Brilliant horror, brilliant film.

Happy 4th of July. I'm about to watch this again in a theatre that has luxury recliners, speakers directly behind the seats, subwoofers so the seat shakes, and tiered seating so I can't see another human being. This is heaven

Damn the sense of impending doom at that party is so intense when you know what's coming.

I've seen it mentioned that the reason Charlie, Annie, & Ellen all had to be decapitated was because in the illustration in the book he had three heads hanging from his belt. But I also noticed that towards the end when Annie goes back to Joan's place and they reveal the idol on her table, it has three decapitated heads praying to the idol of Paimon.

I think that's the way to pass the demon on. Goes from Charlie to Annie to Peter. Not sure how the Grandma fits in, or why they had to wait until her seemingly natural death to start this.

I loved this so much but almost had the experience completely ruined for me by two different groups of people who were laughing through the whole movie. Not the kind of laughter where you get scared so you laugh, it was just constant, like they were cracking jokes to each other the whole time. And with a movie like this getting taken out of the movie by idiots laughing can ruin the whole thing. I've heard of this happening to others with this movie too, like are people really not getting swept up in how INTENSE this movie is?

Edit: just read upwards on this page and am seeing other people definitely had some annoying theater goers as well

Seeing this again today. So far I’m the only one in the theater and I really hope it stays that way. I had a pretty big loss this week and I want to ugly cry as loud as I want.

This movie warrants and evokes very visceral reactions. Hopefully everything is alright! Fingers crossed the theater stays empty

Thank you! Yeah, I’m ok but someone who I’ve known a decade who has been a pretty big mentor to me died unexpectedly last weekend. Seeing this now partly because I want to catch it before it leaves and partly to work through some of the grief on my own. So far so good with being the only one.

I’m hoping they meant to be in The Incredibles showing and will run out at the credits. Otherwise, yes.

Update: they didn’t leave and more people showed up, so my goal of being alone was a total failure. I really can’t believe those kids didn’t freak out and leave. I saw a few things I hadn’t noticed the first time which I really enjoyed. The biggest was that Annie clearly says “Paimon” during her incantation downstairs alone which is way before we ever see the name anywhere else.

Thank you so much! I’m sure some might find it an odd choice but this kind of thing usually helps me let some of the emotions out.

Also the floating body was fine to me this time. Maybe it was the screen quality or something because this time it actually looked realistic and creepy instead of silly.
