Fall Out Boy and Panic are grade A boring bands. NIN though...

 

it's definitely more fun to talk about which bands you like and find fun though, and anything I dislike I generally wish I did like, unless it's those generic pop punk bands who are shitty people too

 

Idk if it was in one of the older threads, but I’m not shy about how 1-dimensional I find Balance and Composure and Tigers Jaw to be too. I get why people like them. But boy do they just not do it for me.

 

I also think there’s a difference between bands that I think are bad and bands I think are boring

I think 21 pilots is bad

I think American Football is boring

 

Panic! make me feel good, and I've tried really hard with NIN. I'm sorry!

I think I heard B & C at the right time and have a range of emotions attached to them. Outside of a few songs, Tigers Jaw don't do much for me

 

I’m sure there are bands like that for me who reached me at the proper crossroads that make them click with me when they don’t with others. @ComedownMachine said it well, I don’t think these are bad bands. Just ones that don’t really move me at all.

 

Like, I know a lot of people could give two shits about Bayside at this point, but I still love them so much from finding them in high school and catching them live multiple times throughout their career.

 

I find TROW boring. I also find American Football boring

Boring's always been an interesting adjective to me when it comes to music. I've used it, but I never quite know what I'm actually trying to say when I use it and realize that I should probably be using a more descriptive word to get across what I want to say. When I read other people use it, I always have a hard time getting what someone means as well. Not engaged? Because of the music? Personal reasons? Aspects of the music that doesn't engage?

I overthink things.

Not engaged is what I’d go with. If I listen to it and I zone out, and feel totally disconnected, and find myself wanting to listen to something else I call it boring

I also use it to mean not engaged. Some things I call boring aren’t even things I would say I dislike, they just don’t interest me and in many cases I don’t understand the appeal.

 

I would also add that many bands that bore me seem to be more lyrically driven, and as lyrics are one of the last aspects of music I catch on to, I fail to get into many bands that may have fantastic lyrical work but that I find sonically dull.

PBTT’s last two albums are a good example of this - I would probably find the lyrics very impressive if I read them as poertry, but I can’t engage with the music at all.

 

I love music I can disengage from though. I actively seek it for various things, meditation, work, and aiding in concentration.

 

I use boring to describe things I wouldn’t necessarily call bad, just that nothing about it sticks out to me
