    Please, no Brand New.

That's a sentence I never thought I'd say on this site.

While I don't believe that, it would definitely target a lot of interesting reactions

As far as that goes I would assume that those shows were booked well in advance and are now cancelled

Throwing this out there now that there's been movement in their camp and Riot Fest has withheld a headliner: Twenty One Pilots?

There's a remarkable number of people that are blissfully unaware of that whole Brand New situation. But I'm really doubting that Riot Fest would book them...

I can definitely see that. Are they still label mates with Young the Giant too?

    TOP would be cool

I feel like the Riot Fest camp has been pretty quiet since the first wave announcement.

I mean, that's not that out of the ordinary. The only time I can remember them doing a ton of press after the first wave announcement is when they have a major reunion (i.e., Misfits, Jawbreaker, the Replacements) which they don't really have this year.

Replacements were a second wave band. That was also years ago so I can’t remember how strong the internet presence was.

Riot fest has no problem with abusers from an ethical standpoint considering Jerry lee Lewis and moose blood, however they would have to know brand new specifically would be a PR disaster since it be one of their first appearances since it be one of their first appearances since their abuse came out and it hit several major music news sites. In addition, if those really are dates that they’re playing, it wouldn’t make sense for them logistically to be playing ohio which is relatively close to Illinois (and usually played within the same week as Chicago dates) two months after. There’s exceptions, but eh

Twenty one pilots would be cool, not particularly a fan but that would actually be huge for the festival. I have some friends who love them and are planning to fly to riot fest from the uk already so this be great for them

Also in regards to Elvis Costello, if he cancels in addition to the other band who had a member pass away and will probably pull out, seems like a bit of an unfortunate year for riot fest and those playing it. Of course personal life and health comes first

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Hey guys, remember earlier in the thread when I made a joke saying Brand New would be 2nd wave because of the Jerry Lewis and Moose Blood booking?

    I’m absolutely terrified now

Were they second wave that year? I thought they were just announced a few days after the rest of the line-up.

Twenty One Pilots would be a big get for Riot Fest, I think. Particularly if it's their first show back after their "hiatus" or whatever.

They were a month after the initial lineup. I double checked to make sure I wasn’t crazy.

I'm in the camp of not believing that Brand New is the third headliner (largely because there's no way it doesn't end with a PR disaster for the fest--as the articles would no doubt also highlight the other problematic acts on the bill, lead to people more vocally questioning the bookings, etc)...

It would be the most tone-deaf move the festival has ever made and it would bum me the fuck out.

FWIW too... The person who came in to post that? It was their first post on this site. Not sure if that increases or decreases the likelihood of that being a troll haha.

Sorry for my confusion there! I had it in my head that it was announced like, the following week. But it was literally one month later... And they were the only Wave 2 band that year, too, I think!

Either way, though, Riot Fest tends to stay quiet unless there's something of particular note to discuss. That's the point I was trying to make.

If it’s BN my relationship with RF is done. The other bookings this year are bad enough but that would be an entirely new level of awful. I’m just more and more glad every day that I decided to skip it this year.

I want to go back to wild speculation about the Spice Girls and forget this discussion happened.

Also I agree that their social media presence has been super weird this year. I wonder if there have been a lot of problems behind the scenes or something because usually by now we have album plays, second wave, and just lots of general posts from them about contests and neighborhood events and everything. This year I’ve just seen a lot of sponsored posts about tickets being available.

I'm not on Twitter/Facebook enough to know if that's just... A function of the social media sites (I know Facebook is fucking weird about that stuffy) or if they just keep pushing the tickets because they aren't selling very well.

I've been thinking about the album plays too. I wonder if they're even doing it this year? They haven't mentioned it at all.

It definitely feels like something’s a bit different social media wise and in general. But this has been a weird year for the festival market as a whole, I know there was rumors of there being trouble location wise a few months back, and they had such a successful past few years it seems that there’s probably a bit of difficulty expectation wise. Chicago region is even harder to work with considering lolla and pitchfork and now wicker park fest all happening within the same time frame and area, so you gotta work with your talent pools radius clause

I don't know that any of the other Chicago festivals have bands that would have been "game-changers" for Riot Fest in terms of staying within the festival's overall vibe and being a major draw, but both Wicker Park and Pitchfork snagged acts that would have helped beef up the undercard quite a bit... For me, anyway.

Specifically: Japandroids, Courtney Barnett, Against Me!, Open Mike Eagle, the Get Up Kids, OWTH, Lemuria, and Rozwell Kid.

tbh never thought I’d be wishing this hard for brand new NOT to play a show i already have tickets for & a whole trip booked around... :/

I'm a huge Twenty One Pilots fan, but I don't think they will fit the Riot Fest vibe, although they will pull a big crowd for sure.

If them or Brand New are on the line up, will any of them will be the third headliner?

It kinda makes sense if it's Brand New now that I'm think... They are friends with Kevin Devine and they tour togther and plays festival together, and he is on the line up. Also, the only time Taking Back Sunday was abscent from the line up was 2016, the same year Brand New played Riot, and again this year they are not on the line up.

Maybe I'm just creating a crazy theory, but in my head it made sense

    Things have changed.

Stop with this Brand New nonsense.
