Is this place a joke?

 

Oh good, I’ll be all caught up then.

 

Definitely not.

 

EL Ideas quest is to make fine dining cuisine and service approachable and fun instead of pretentious and stuffy.

The cost of our tasting menu is $155/person plus tax and service charge.

How is this place not a joke when these two sentences are on their main page? Lol

It’s a 13-course meal from a Michelin star restaurant. Similar ones in Chicago are more than twice the price, and that’s not even counting drinks whereas El Ideas is BYOB.

And it’s far from pretentious. They have a lot of fun with the food and presentation. Licking the plate is a common thing they do with the first course to try and lighten the mood.

You can literally walk into the kitchen while they’re cooking and talk to them about the food and the process. If you tried doing that at any other restaurant you’d get reprimanded if not thrown out.

Last time I went the dessert was so good I asked for the recipe and the server took down my email and a few days later I had an email from the head chef with the recipe.

My gawd. I’m sorry, I had no idea.

 

No dress code either, which is always a plus. And if you call ahead they’ll tell you what styles of beer to bring to pair with your food.

 

I can't do tasting menus I'm way too picky, I have a hard enough time finding food I want at some places where I can pick what I eat

 

I just don’t think I’ve ever spent $175 for both my wife and I to eat somewhere, let alone for one person. The most was probably around $120. I knew places like this existed but I thought you had to be in the mob or something to eat there/know about it.

Most I've spent for 1 person meal is probably like $30.

I don't think I could stomach spending more than that on a meal

I'm that person who orders the same boring meal if I dislike most things on the menu, or if I'm being pressured to pick something quickly
