Interestingly enough, I read an article the other day where the guitarist of BTBAM ranked his favorite albums and it went as follows:

    Silent Circus<Self-Titled<Alaska<Great Misdirect<Colors<Parallax<Coma Ecliptic

an inverted ranking would have been a surprise, but that's exactly what I imagined...

On another note, does anyone rock a vest with all those band patches and whatnot? I used to think they looked dumb but I totally want to make one now because why tf not.

    lol

I used to have a Xasthur patch - wish I still had it - would definitely sew it to my denim jacket

This actually sums up my favorite albums and tracks stance on Between the Buried and Me perfectly. Colors is my favorite album of theirs, but there are some songs on Alaska that are my favorites in their discography. In particular, All Bodies, the title track (the break with the single cymbal hit gets me every time I listen to it for some reason, haha), and Backwards Marathon. The interludes feel a little out of place on that album to me so that's what drags the complete album down a little below Colors for me.

I've contemplated getting one for a while. I have a Young and in the Way backpatch along with a couple other patches (Inter Arma, Gorgoroth, Pig Destroyer) that need homes, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I've got one and a few patches.. but I don't know how to sew, so guess I should learn, lol.

I own a bunch of patches that were throw-ins with album/merch orders but I wear hoodies almost exclusively so I don't have much use for them. I've seen people sew patches onto the back of hoodies before, though.

Great bit of power metal that doesn't get too over-the-top with guitar parts or anything like that. Just delightfully cheesey fantasy-themed lyrics and some nice riffs.

Shit, I didn't know there was a new Katatonia. They got me through my sophomore year of college, so I'll always have time for them.

Need some recommendations. Gimme the albums with the most ferocious and impressive drumming you can think of.

    I'll keep it short:

    Rebel Extravaganza by Satyricon
    Nothing by Meshuggah
In their Darkened Shrines by Nile

Second anything by Nile, especially Annihilation of the Wicked. George Koilas is a machine.

I mean that album is pretty cool. but its actually Mayhem aping Deathspell Omega. really

timeline: Mayhem put out Chimera in '04, the same year Deathspell put out Si Monumentum and made a name for themsleves as modern and experimental masters of black metal. Mayhem's Ordo Ad Chao sounds like a completely different ideaology from Chimera and it is extremely apparent that it was very influenced by Deathspell. Also, FAS came out that same year and stole its thunder by being the best black metal album of the year and one of the very best of all time.

I'd only give tech death recs which I'm sure you know about already. Anything from the faceless, after the burial, periphery, and arsis.

this is all probably true (except that Chimera is not that far from OAC, imo and that Grand Declaration begins to present dissonance in a way that would evolve to the Chimera sound), but I think Mayhem took it to another level - more abstract, more deranged... that production is sick... it is also technically superior (not that it really maters) to FAS, I fell (Hellhammer in this, Jesus) also... Attila > Mikko Aspa

I quite like DsO, by the way... glad we can have both : )

Thanks for the recs, all! Much appreciated. And @CellarGhosts I don't mind at all if the drums are programmed, hah. As long as it sounds good it doesn't bother me at all.
