I hear the argument of largely middle-upper class british white men profiting off the work of poor and oppressed american black males. I really do. But singling out Led Zeppelin as the sole purveyors of that like The Beatles, the Stones, the Kinks, the Who etc. etc. etc. all before them didn’t do the exact same is pretty weak.

The entire genre of rock and roll is built off the success of delta blues that never got the success deserved in its prime. So should i refrain from listening to music with guitars because it is five times removed from its roots as blues music? I mean, okay, I guess.

 

i haven't read about the details of their plagiarism in a long time but you can't steal a chord progression

a melody, lyrics, sure, but if you could plagiarize a chord progression you'd have exactly 1 blues song ever

 

the point is that was the 60's, everyone knows about the history of the genre and rock and roll stealing from the blues, you aren't introducing any new information by pointing it out and it comes across as trying to seem smarter than everyone else because you know despite it being common knowledge. if it were happening right now with some genre sure, and we do call out modern day cultural appropriation. but you literally cannot rewrite music history especially that far back

Not when it's credited or permission is given. A lot of music/art is derivative... its natural and perfectly ok... usually.
