Full Metal Alchemist is getting a live-action adaptation with a fully Japanese cast which is great.

They are also adapting Night of the Chimera's Cry as a part of it and I'm completely not ready to see that.

Happily, we're finally getting a female main villain (played by Cate Blanchett) in next year's Thor: Ragnarok. It's pretty crazy to think that, apart from Nebula as a supporting villain in Guardians of the Galaxy, there hasn't been a single major female MCU villain yet.

and most frustratingly, that's (usually) almost entirely because executives say "the toys won't sell"

It's odd to me that this is happening already because the people that sent that message to Shane Black (Marvel's old "Creative Committee" that was recently ousted in order to give Kevin Feige total control) were still in charge of the decision making process when Thor: Ragnarok was conceived/being written. Why they weren't worried about it then when they were worried about it during Iron Man 3, I to this day have no idea. Mostly just happy it's changing, and glad Feige is more in control now.

maybe cuz Iron Man films are more popular or whatever. its much higher profile than the Thor franchise

Yes and no. It certainly made more money than the Thor films, however it also had the bump of being the first film released after the original Avengers. At the same time, though, the Marvel franchise is so high-profile and popular at this point that anything bearing their logo is guaranteed to gross at least $500 million. The MCU is it's own mega-franchise with several sub-franchises within it, really. Which is the real reason why that "female villains won't sell toys" comment kind of threw me for a loop; this franchise is like a money printing press no matter which hero is at the top of the bill. Ant-Man grossed over half a billion dollars. Ant-Man.

But, Marvel is taking steps to improve this situation at least. Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther are all coming in the next couple years. Guardians of the Galaxy (which is getting a sequel next year) features a woman and man of color in lead roles. And their TV division is doing some pretty amazing stuff as well. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Agents of SHIELD (where two series leads are badass women of color), and the (sadly cancelled) Agent Carter. It just took too long for it to get to this point.

Any time I see something like this, it moves me emotionally. Every. Single. Time. No matter how "small." Props to DC for doing better with representation in their films out of the gate, but now I really want Jessica Cruz in the Green Lantern Corps film.

I have... mixed feelings on this. It's WB Japan, so it's not really like we have any say as Westerners, but considering the genocide storyline, I'd actually would've liked to see this with a more diverse cast. Death Note, however,

idk if it goes here but since it lacks visibility I'm gonna put it here. Elijah Wood had an interview mentioning pedophiles in Hollywood, and talked about the documentary Open Secret that interviews former child stars who were impacted. I'm watching it now on youtube and gaaah within the first five minutes where nothing has really even happened yet I already feel like I'm gonna cry. I lost it as soon as Todd Bridges showed up.

I know! It's so sad. Nothing graphic behind spoiler but just in case for some ppl most of the movie revolves around the same gross group of men and there's old footage shown where Ben savage is meeting up with the men and one of the men grabs his butt when they hug. It was so quick and nobody reacted to it or anything. I knew it was prevalent but it was so sad to see.

Even though that whole thing was, as article described, an UGH moment, I feel okay acknowledging that she's human and says problematic shit sometimes.
That being said, her take in the video above is really great to be projecting on a public platform, and is likely doing a lot of good to bring attention to these issues.
That's just my two cents. I don't think her saying that discounts her message in the video, which is a positive and pretty well rounded one.

oh and I am about an hour into An Open Secret and just want to cry. I have been talking to people for a while about my suspicions and the rumors involving Dan Schneider, one of the big wigs at Nickelodeon. Knowing that they openly employ Brian Peck pretty much confirms my suspicions. The whole thing is so sickening and heartbreaking.

I had no idea who Brian peck was until this movie and I was disgusted. Like some of these aren't just rumors and accusations. Some ppl have convictions and still work in hwood

exactly. It's EXACTLY how they said it in the movie- its just the tip of the iceberg. If convicted people are still working then imagine how many people without convictions are still working. It's so disturbing. I finished the doc last night and just wanted more. Why aren't people talking about this
