What anti-weed PSA? That flew way over my head. The pot related scenes were great, they reminded me of myself in high school. When he tells the girl he has weed and she takes him to the room with the other people, hahaha classic

 

I saw a bunch of negative comments on reddit about it saying that they felt like it was saying weed was evil and will make you kill your sister. I think it’s totally ridiculous and definitely not an actual subtext for the film.

Just wanted to thank this thread. I will never watch this movie, but want to know everything about it.

It’s not a super scary movie to watch. Tense, for sure, but not scary (imo)

 

My mom texted me saying she can't stop thinking about it and whats to see it again. I guess number 3 is on the way.

 

Maybe I’m overthinking but Charlie only eats chocolate food... Hershey bars at the funeral and later at school. M&M’s while working on her sculpture. Then the chocolate cake.

 

Honestly I tried making one of these last night but gave up after 10 minutes lol.

I did one for Annihilation earlier this year

 

Going again tomorrow with a couple of friends that haven’t seen it yet, plus it’ll be my first time at an Alamo (finally) — cannot wait.

 

Seeing a movie like this again with people who haven’t is a joy since you know what’s about to happen and you get to hear their audible reactions

It's from a bit back now but I assumed it was just the knife contaminating the cake and not nuts in the cake, because I feel like Charlie is smart enough to spit that shit out if she was eating it and felt nuts in the cake. I know that wouldn't have helped at that point I don't think if she's seriously allergic, but I don't think she would have just let it chill in her mouth and swallow. Like she would realize there's lumps in the cake. Making it from the knife having cut nuts before is more discreet so she's not thinking about it having nuts. I guess then you could go "but then why were they cutting nuts if it wasn't in the cake" and yea fair enough but I'd like to give Charlie more credit than that.

Edit 2: Showtime was at 910. It's 935. Called the theater from my seat and they can't get the movie working FML

 

The Ending of 'Hereditary' Feels Inevitable

 

I didn't watch the movie because I knew it wouldn't help my anxiety, but I just watched a few low quality YouTube clips having already read the whole plot a while back. Man. Charlie's death is horrifying even without context. I was actually surprised at how gorgeous and tastefully shot the death itself was, and Alex Wolff absolutely sells the shock, but Annie screaming as it shows Charlie's head in the road is just awful. And that's already knowing the plot and watching a low quality video that's chopped up and out of context. I can't imagine if I'd gone into this movie blind and been blindsided by that.

When a movie scene ignites actual fear in me, like the bear scene in Annihilation, I'm usually so impressed that I forget to be disturbed. But seeing such horrific imagery while hearing the realistic reaction to said imagery is pretty much my worst fear put on film. I've heard enough wailing in real life that it's one of the few things that always gets to me in movies when done well. It's amazing that Toni Collette pulled that off, but I'm totally walking out of the theater for that scene if I ever decide to see this.

The only scene that might hit me on this same level is the lake scene in Zodiac, also endlessly disturbing to me for how realistically it conveys trauma and horror simultaneously.
