Hey, I'm right there with you. I thought Rob's last solo album was kind of shit, but I'm a big fan otherwise. Hopefully Butch helps him find the magic again.

Also super excited for Butch producing Matt Nathanson (and Andrew McMahon, obviously). He's kind of been working his way through my favorite artists list recently.

 

OK good, and yes his last album was bad, sadly.

 

Found this earlier today. It's pretty heartbreaking. I don't think he publicly released it, but it's been shared around some of the Butch Walker fan communities on Facebook and stuff. Apparently he wrote it from the perspective of a little girl who died of a brain tumor. The girl's uncle put it up on YouTube, so I'm guessing it's a family Butch knows personally.

I am super interested to see what direction he goes with the new album. Butch is a musical chameleon, but Stay Gold seemed like the perfect mix of everything he does really well.

 

We got a new song in DC tonight. It was solo acoustic so who knows what it'll sound like on a record but it seemed like somewhat of a departure from Stay Gold. Very story driven, no immediate pop hook. Good stuff as always though.

 

Butch says in this vid that the new record will be a concept album. Also, the song he's working on sounds good:

So glad I finally got out to a Butch show, he did not disappoint. He played about 45 minutes solo first, lots of Afraid of Ghosts stuff, then brought out the full band for another hour, played 4 songs with Jakob Dylan, then closed it out with a half hour Marvelous 3 set. The whole thing was a total blast.
