Honestly I'm ready to vote Eric Palmquist as president after his work on this. One of the best produced albums I've heard. Why the hell coukdnt Brand New have used him for their new stuff?

people have said this 100 times already but Hurricane is just such a killer opener

 

Just finished my first listen. Not disappointed at all. Salt and Shadow destroyed my world... I feel similar to when I first heard Vheissu, not saying its as good but just I was so damn happy after then final track finished and also a little confused, overwhelmed but super ready to listen to this over and over. Not a bad track on here! Hurricane, The Window, Long Defeat, Stay With Me, Salt and Shadow my early favorites....like a lot of you on here haha

 

Salt shaker? Some kind of super pun like For Miles?

I think people that have a problem with Wake Up probably only dislike the melody and lyrics of the chorus....as it sounds super classic rock and unlike Thrice. That tune actually reminds me of the Beatles a little bit. I dig it! To me it's like a WAY better Doublespeak.

 

We have heard the terribly mixed single from it

 

first half is growing on me! particularly "The Long Defeat." Still not enamored with "Wake Up."

I do think that comparing Major/Minor and this reveals a vast divide--everything on this record is a step up. This sounds alive and angry and impassioned, and M/M always sort of rang hollow for me. For that reason, I feel that this one picks up the threads of Beggars more than M/M ever did.

 

Wake Up is good. Has a Foo Fighters feel to it. It's different than the rest of the record though

 

Step 1: Go for a drive.

Step 2: Put this song on.

Step 3: Turn up the volume.

Step 4: Become enamored.

I think the last minute or so of Wake Up blew out my car speakers today. Whoops.

 

the ending piano riff reminds me of Alkaline Trio circa Crimson

 

So, customer service ("Mike") told me today that while they have had a few black/smoke variant mixups, the good news is that if yours is still processing or was shipped today or tomorrow, that is because the extra time was taken in assuring orders were headed to the proper recipients.

For real though.

 

"Wake Up" clicked for me when I realized how Beatles-y the chorus was. Perhaps a different way of looking at it? Without the Beatles frame of mind, I was getting some odd southern rock vibes that rubbed me wrong. But now I see/hear it differently.

 

This makes me more nervous because mine shipped Wednesday.
