I know I'm in the minority but this has really grown on me. Ghost Town has got me so hyped for KSG this week.

It's funny, when I first heard the song I started laughing when Cudi started singing. Now it's my favorite hook on the album haha.

I just can't get over how flat Cudi sounds in his part at the end

I will say Ghost Town is where Kanye actually sounds somewhat decent on the album, but still, eh

Lift Yourself is better written than anything on this album.

  8. Sadly, this is unironically true

I came here to specifically say this. The instrumental and melodic elements to Violent Crimes are my favorite music moment of this short and less than average album.

I just want a Kanye record littered with moments like that one. Give me an album filled with songs like Ultra Light Beam.

Yeah that's some editorial score going on there because the review eviscerates the album and kanye

    Just a friendly reminder

It's like they gave it a 7.1 in the hopes that it wouldn't piss off fans too much. The review is absolutely scathing. A reminder that Pitchfork scores are meaningless and decided by committee.

    That review reads like a 4 or a 5.

yo what the fuck, I was reading the review and kept going "wow alright yea this is massacring it, it must pick up by the end" and it JUST DOESN'T. How the hell did it score a 7.1 with a review like that.

    Review reads like a 2.8.
Obviously the higher ups like it a lot more than the writer. A below-5 score would have boosted clicks, so it simply has to be that the editors think the album is pretty good. Right?

Yeah I kept waiting for the part where she likes something about the record haha. It never happens. So the score makes no sense.
This is also why Ian Cohen can review albums he considers to be among the top 10 of the decade and they get 7s or low 8s.
Also why After the Party received a review full of praise for a middling 6-something.

The reviews tell you the person's opinion. The scores tell you what the tastemakers at the top want to happen with the album.

I'm honestly without words, they did not say a single good thing about that album in that review and they decided to give it a 7.1

i have my own suspicions but i don’t think this is going to have whatever effect they intended

Yeah the 7.1 is clearly a calculated political choice.

Solid write-up though. I generally agree with it.

it’s a great piece. the way to attract attention to that piece and not the asymmetry of the score is... to not do what they did
