But people already use what Fat Mike has gotten away with in the past to justify repugnant things he says in the present. So if we allow him to just apologize and move on, he's not going to change and he's just going to see how much further he can push the envelope. I'm not saying NOFX should be cancelled forever, but I think it's good that they are facing some immediate ramifications for this. They can apologize, regroup, and now they know that there is a line that even they can't cross and hopefully won't do it again in the future.

 

The guy who doesn't own guns and has made a living off punk rock values... he's normalizing gun violence?. I think our government and the right wing and many other platforms have done the job of normalizing gun violence.

But what I mean is that no one hears what mike says and thinks "yeah you know what...fuck country fans I hope they get shot".. And that's what I mean about intent and ramifications.

Reactions are "oof too soon" and "ugh gross thing to say"... And then in a week we all move on.

 

Youre probably right and i agree with your stance. I think this is definitely s good moment to reflect and rethink certain "jokes"

 

I disagree that this is beyond his 'tasteless humor'. I also think a lot of people like his taste of humor. That being said, i didn't think this one was funny.

Well if it’s calling attention to what causes outrage and backlash and what slips through the cracks, it kind of does. They just got kicked off their OWN festival for his comments, and then this got announced right after, with lots of jokes and speculation about NOFX being on the lineup.

 

After hearing Father John Misty’s new album I’m twice as excited for this set as I already was, and I was already very excited. Probably my most anticipated of the weekend.

 

Right now it’s safe to say Blink / Beck / ??? are closing out each night yeah?

It's gotta be someone ridiculous the last headliner... But then again with such a "okay" lineup I feel like they would've revealed their big splash with it.

I feel like it’s either something mindblowing like Replacements or Jawbreaker that no one sees coming or something really lackluster, because you’re totally right that this first wave is missing something hype-worthy.

 

Just to keep everyone's (including myself) expectations in check, I'm pretty sure that The Flaming Lips were the ??? Two years ago.

In 2013 I think it was The Replacements though which was huge

2016 also had Sleater Kinney on the second wave which was a huge get.

In 2015 it was System of a Down/The Prodigy.

There’s still hope for something big.

 

Yeah, 2017 had At The Drive-In and Danzig. So I don’t really think there’s anything to worry about

If they end up being the ???? band I will legitimately be surprised. I figured if they were on they’d be first wave for sure

 

As far as headliners, when there’s already a really “wow” factor headliner (Misfits reunion->2nd wave was Flaming Lips), the 2nd wave is usually more lackluster, but when the original wave is more standard the second wave headliner is much crazier (blink & fall out boy -> replacements reunion; no doubt & modest mouse -> System of a Down which is a rare show)
