Hey everyone. I realize that I'm not an expert on communism/Marxism, and I apologize if I made some ignorant statements yesterday. I appreciate everyone that linked me to reading materials and/or videos that give more background on those ideologies and I am planning on learning more, it's definitely not an area of political thought I've spent most of my focus on, I've mostly only studied it in a historical context as part of other classes/readings but not directly. So what I was posted was just based on what I knew so far, which I'll admit is probably very incomplete and fragmented. I wish things hadn't gotten so heated.

That being said I wish we could discuss issues on here with people who disagree (or maybe have incomplete knowledge) without it getting that heated in the first place. I really appreciate that most of you linked me to information to learn more or actually responded to my points... I just felt like giving up yesterday when I didn't make any personal attacks towards anyone to my knowledge in my original posts but received several directed at me. I'm much more politically moderate than most of the people here and even though I admire you guys' passion I'll honestly just observe political discussions rather than participate on this site from here on out, I don't think things like last night were fun for anyone.

 

Imagine being the kinda person that talks about jumping off a bridge just weeks after Scott’s death.

 

Imagine saying people are hiding in a public forum after creating a fake account and being too much of a coward to put your real name on your words.

 

In the simplest terms possible, it's hard to be polite when someone is outright saying that keeping others down to get ahead makes more sense than everyone having enough, and then citing a bunch of inapplicable historical instances as to why this must be the case

Defenses of capitalism are directly advocating for inequality and show a general lack of empathy that doesn't exactly encourage kindness towards your viewpoint

If it was a lack of knowledge than that's what it is and take it as a learning experience, but people weren't being harsh for fun. They were being harsh because there are honestly lives at stake within the current economic system and, whether it's ignorance or not, it's going to make passionate people stand up for those that capitalism would rather see dead if they weren't good for profit margins

 

My biggest takeaway from this album is that Kanye is completely convinced that spontaneity and weirdness is the only way to produce real art. I have serious doubts he'll ever make a good song again bc he's seemingly just said fuck songwriting and is giving us whatever's on the top of his head with no revision or tinkering whatsoever. Like, the level of thought that went into MBDTF to this is fucking gargantuan. Yeezus was the perfect mix of this and that, TLOP he started to roll down the hill a little, this is him swan diving off a cliff and into the center of a volcano

this is also to say nothing of the super gross/misogynistic lyrics. yeeeeah not coming back to this one

I didn’t see myself as defending capitalism but again that’s okay, I can see how it came across that way. My current viewpoint leans towards some form of social democratic system as being better than any other available option, I certainly wasn’t saying that capitalism is good when I was critiquing communism. They can both be flawed systems, a critique of one isn’t a defense of the other. And once again I’m going to study communism more, because I realize my knowledge isn’t very extensive.
