Right now it's only for purchase on iTunes and Amazon mp3, it's not streaming on Apple Music.

haha sorry, I highlighted a line from your post, but I think you mean End of Reel, not Piano Player.

  4. Soft Animal and End of Reel are probably my two favorites as of now

Does Piano Player remind anyone else of Tegan and Sara's "The Ocean" ?

I know Christian is a big Tegan and Sara fan, so could be.

I think this record has so far been very influential in starting arguments which I'm pretty sure is the message of The Hotelier's music. Such a legacy...

    Well done. Good stuff.

Whoever said End of Reel is the song that The Wonder Years wishes they wrote was dead on.

Anyways, I love this album. I knew since my first listen that Opening Mail would grow on me a ton and it really has, that song is an immense pleasure to listen to. Whole album just gets better and better. I was a huge fan of Home and this is probably pretty much on par with that.

Just out of curiosity, not try to start an argument... Why would you be interested in knowing that?

I played it for 2 friends last night that hadn't listened to the Hotelier before and they loved it.

    Haha I'll fight you!

I guess it kind of goes back to a conversation that happened here a week or so ago. But I think for the most part posters on this forum have heard Home and have spent time with it and grown to love it and to love the Hotelier. So we understand the Hotelier and their music in a way and so can instantly connect with Goodness.

Somehow I don't feel like Goodness is an album that someone with no experience with the band can just pick up and appreciate. I really doubt that anyone who just discovered the band with this album considers it "special" or "important" already (sorry to throw out those words again ;-p). I've tried to get a few friends to listen to it but they couldn't get into it. Basically long story short I think Home is way more accessible. But I also understand how someone might feel the exact opposite.

Edit: to the post above this... guess my friends just suck.

I almost wonder.. And I want to put this carefully. Do you have know home to appreciate this. Know where they came from and how this record relates to coming out of the darkness that record was shrouded in. I'm not sure but it's an interesting convo to have.. I mean I love the guitars, the melodies, the drums, and the feel of everything on here and I don't think I love it bc of HLNPIT but unfortunately it's impossible for me to know if I would love this without hearing the previous work.

Yeah that's my thoughts. If I picked this up completely fresh never listening to them before I'm not sure I would have listened a second time. That being said I've listened to this a bunch of times because I know what it is and it has grown on me and I really like it.

Just want to add one thing.. I've had favorite bands release bad records before and.. Well i don't listen to them... I doubt I've listened to this over 30 times just bc I loved the last record

Yeah absolutely. Manchester is/was one of my favourite bands. When they released Cope I listened to it a whole bunch of times to try and like it and then realized it's shit and now I never listen to it.

And just speaking generally I think if you listen to almost any at least respectable album enough times you will start to memorize the words and the songs and therefore come to enjoy it more.

    thanks for the good response!
I totally see what you mean. and yeah like Teebs said, i guess its kind of impossible for us to know. I guess for me personally, the Hotelier were kind of a "game changer" band for me. Meaning, getting into the Hotelier caused i think a big shift in what i want in music at this phase of my life. Before i got super into the Hotelier i guess my "ideal" music was stuff like Brand New, mewithoutYou, O'Brother, The Felix Culpa... bands that have darker / heavier aspects. But getting into The Hotelier was kind of a shift for me in the sense that, yeah like, Home Like Noplace Is There is "dark" without a doubt, but musically it isnt like Daisy kind of dark. It was still ridiculously catchy and, i dno, im hesitant to use this word because of the lyrical content of Home, but like, its fun? i dno if that makes sense. Fun definitely isnt the exact word im looking for, but i think youll get what im trying to say.

anyway, essentially because of that record, i started wanting completely different things from bands than what i wanted before. And because that record is the one that really made kind of that shift for me, i was anticipating this record a lot and it completely came through and exceeded my expectations. Essentially, Goodness is what i want out of music right now at the age of 22 and i got it.

i dno, i feel like my thoughts in this post are kind of disconnected and there may have been no point in any of that.

Nah I think I got you. That Canadian connection.

I know what you mean about fun. It's so catchy and groovy that you just want to sing it out loud and dance to it. Like I can be in a great mood and have a great time when I listen to that.

exactly yeah. like, its a lot easier to shout out and the top of my lungs with a smile on my face "The Scope Of All Of This Rebuilding" or "Sun" than it is a song like "Limousine" lol

I would LOVE to know what the poem/track 1 dialogue means. Also, what are the themes of the album are? I am totally lost on the lyrics.

But that's, like, the wrong song on Devil to shout along to. I shout along to Degausser or Sowing Season or Not The Sun all the time. It's a little silly to cherry pick 2 good examples from 1 band, and one not good example from another band/album.

I get what you're saying though

  24. The circular nature of things, the fleeting essence of (all kinds of) love and the fact that the fleetingness doesn't undermine the beauty of it. The themes as far as I've noticed

well yeah but you know what i mean. i wasnt trying to disservice Brand New or anything... obviously by my username im a big fan of the band lol. And of course, i shout along to TDAG and Daisy all the time, but not doubt it brings a different vibe then when you shout along with Home Like Noplace Is There, despite the fact that theyre both not exactly the happiest of subject matters.
And those different "vibes" or whatever... one im not saying one is better than the other. im just saying, for me it exists. one makes me feel one way, the other makes me feel another. at this point in my life i lean towards one, but still love the other.
