Have we made the Gerard Way comparison yet?

Also the guitar kinda reminds me of Warbrain from Alkaline Trio

I take back things I said about this song, this sounds like nothing else in their discography.

I couldn't take it off repeat on my ride home from work. While it appears to be a divisive track, the fact that the band has recorded these upcoming records themselves makes me incredibly happy.

They are doing what they want, and that's all that I want.

The quivers at the end of giveeeees in the chorus, the inflection fcoffee, his rapping of the Jane line, all masterful work by Matty

What do people make of the lyrics? Obviously get ideas about aging and dealing with addiction and things but I'm trying to think of the bigger picture

I have a feeling this will be the album critics will be entirely onboard, not that it really matters

i see it as an extremely positive song. he's looking back on shit he's been through but walking away from it advising his younger fanbase to "give themselves a try," live their life the way they want and do the things they wanna do because growing up isn't exactly what you think it's going to be but it's enlightening all the same. the bit about the fan killing herself is a bit of a dark turn but its just another thing matty has had to deal with in his 20s and the fact he's able to come out of that ("i was 25 and afraid to go outside" hints he struggled with that happening to a fan of his) informs the more positive overall message being relayed. thats just my general guess.

I like this take. My initial reading was more melancholy, but this jives better with the chorus

okay the main guitar riff may never change but you guys do hear that second guitar and the slight variations going on right

yeah the verses detail rather bleak experiences but the chorus flips it into a positive message

matty is an unbelievably clever and emotionally resonant writer, even if his bluntness can be a turn off for some people. dont think anyone else on earth would write about finding a gray hair in a joint, getting STD's, and a fan committing suicide in the same verse and have it all connect and make sense somehow

I wanna like this so much. I know they rely on loops but I feel like they slightly missed the mark. I love the direction though and am almost certain that I’ll love some of the songs off the record.

Can I also say that it is great to hear their voices in interviews. Very few bands do I care that much about to watch their interviews.
