I said they didn't direct another movie until 2008. My point is that it's harder for them to get the same platforms. A lot of it is that they make weird, unorthodox movies that haven't made a lot of money, and they work in genres that require a lot of spending. I get why they aren't given a lot of the same chances as, say, a Zack Snyder or J.J. Abrams. I'd still rather see a Wachowski movie than a Snyder or Abrams movie (both of whom are very talented in the ways in which they're talented, I just find the messaging and identity of their films less interesting than what the Wachowski's have put forth).

I get that wanting weird, unorthodox, unique movies runs counter to what a lot of people want out of a blockbuster. But A New Hope was a really weird, unorthodox, unique movie when it came out, borne from the vision of people who were doing stuff that no one else was really doing. I'd like to see more of that spirit in the cinematic playground it's spawned.

The problem is that you are defending two different things but acting as if they are one and the same.

A weird unique movie can be made by a ton of different people. The Wachowski’s aren’t needed for that.

I would love a weird and unique Star Wars movie, but the Wachowski’s are not need for that. But you are acting as if they are the only ones who could ever pull it off, which just isn’t true.

And I disagree with that. Their page is full of work in multiple mediums that maybe 1% of directors/creatives ever get to participate in: The Wachowskis - Wikipedia

That's a helluva last 10 years. And they got $176 million to make Jupiter Ascending just three years ago. (The movie made $18 million in its opening weekend.)

Better question, why would anybody talk about it?

It's literally one of my favorite movies of all time, so that'd be a good reason why

  8. I'd so much rather give new young voices chances at stardom (and money) than very rich people that have been doing this forever. More Cooglers, less Abrams.

  9. Cloud Atlas was a good book.

Yeah... that’s all fair. I think to me a lot of the reasons people don’t like the Wachowski’s stem from a lot of the reasons Speed Racer was overlooked, and it’s easier to joke about Cloud Atlas than engage with its (admittedly not perfectly executed) ambition and ridiculousness

  11. Just looked it up and Sense 8 was apparently $9 million per episode to film. The sixth season of GOT was $10m per. I think they're getting the budgets to make shit, I wish more people watched what they do make when it comes out. I liked Sense 8.

I agree. In a world, though, where Lucasfilm isn’t giving new, young voices opportunities, I think the most prominent trans filmmakers in the world, who make meaningful, interesting, unique movies, getting an opportunity at Star Wars would be cool.

  13. I'm the wrong person to talk to about that, I loved Street Racer and still watch it to this day ... and I absolutely hate JA and CA. Two of the worst movies I've ever seen.

  14. My argument would be that in the world where they're not giving (cheaper) new, young and diverse voices the opportunity, is also the world where they're not giving the Wachowskis (if they wanted one) a film. So we need to change the world we're in, which would mean I'm going to advocate most for giving new young voices some money and films over the old guard,

You think they’ll let us make a live-action Miles Morales series??

  16. How do we get that money seriously hahaha.

I pitched MTV an idea for a show a few years back and then David Chang made it about food for Netflix so clearly I am qualified, can I help make a Spider-Man thing please?

    Done.

I'm not the right person for it, obviously, but I'd be great at helping put together a good Spider-Gwen movie.

We can just make a college Peter Parker series based on the Lee/Romita era w/ some slight race-bending and less misogyny. And then, when it inevitably becomes a big hit, we can spin a Miles Morales series out of it written and run by a team of black & Latinx writers. And then you and @Deanna can team up for the Spider-Gwen spinoff.

    Boom.

We should just make a thread for Spider-Man talk of all kinds, tbh. (Except, all pro-Tobey talk is banned, sorry @Nathan.)

Hah, half it will be my fan fiction.

I'm literally gonna make it right now.

And call it "Spider-Man Discussion (Official Web)" get it, 'cause "web" = "thread"
