Joyce Manor is one of the most overrated Chorus bands to me. I love them and listen to them semi-frequently. But they aren't groundbreaking or anything. They just do something done a hundred times before better than most.

yeah, they're not groundbreaking they're just great songwriters who are consistent but not boring which is in itself unique in their corner of the world bc it's so much more common to go for perpetual ill suited reinvention now. and like that specific Nexus of jawbreaker, guided by voices, Weezer, and the Smiths (and I guess some TGUK/Promise Ring) really does it for me personally. also such sturdy economical lyrics ah. heart eyes tbh

I’m actually under a lot of lowkey stress and pressure financially. I’m the kind of person who ignores it or pretends like everything’s fine when really I’m drowning and overwhelmed with it. Like it’s no secret I’ve been suicidal lately and money is just a part of that. Sometimes it feels like there really is no light at the end of the tunnel and I’m going to be floundering in poverty forever.
Like when I complain to my mom that orientation for college is mandatory and costs $65....and she replies back with “you better start flipping burgers soon!” Like....cool...

I have! I loved their EP and was a little underwhelmed with their debut as a whole but still had some grea stuff.

Oh yeah I get it, they are dope for sure haha. I just don't get why some people call them like, AOTY worthy
