Been watching Room 104, an anthology show on HBO by the Duplass brothers. Some of the episodes are creepy as shit, some just straight drama, some just plain out there. There's even a full episode devoted to a dance performance. A wildly original show that's worth checking out. Each episode is only 30 minutes so it's easy to jump right in.

Not a horror movie but seeing My Girl at age 9 was the first time I cried in a movie because a kid my own age was killed.

I honestly love Halloween 3, it’s such a weird movie but has a cool premise and that song just gets stuck in your head.

  4. Halloween 4 was...solid. A lot more interesting than I expected. There are definitely some strange writing choices, but considering where horror movies were a decade after the original, they did the best they could without Carpenter, Hill or Curtis' involvement. I really liked the story and twist ending, plus there were a few fun kills. Adding the supernatural element to Michael was easily the worst part, but considering Loomis spent the two original describing him as "pure evil" and "not human," I got over it pretty quickly. Also Donald Pleasance was great as always

Apparently Halloween 5 and 6 are where the franchise really takes a dive, so we'll see how that goes over tomorrow night.

i am enjoying reading your takes on each film as a first time viewer

  6. Thanks! I'll keep posting them then.

Also, I've been planning on starting a horror franchise podcast when I move out to Pittsburgh at the top of the month, so if anyone here has a favorite franchise they might like to discuss, I'd be happy to chat about it. @DarkHotline this was the project I mentioned on Facebook, haha. Still working out rhe details though.

Watching Nightmare On Elm Street for the first time. I don’t know why, but I guess no one I knew really watched them growing up and it never seemed to appeal to me. Only move I did seen him In was Freddy Vs. Jason in theaters (god, To think of all the terrible movies I wasted money on in Jr. High). Anywho, I’m about 20 min in and that Tina bedroom scene was crazy, I’m sold.

The first film holds up soooooo well. The way they did that scene was so cool. The second one is fun imo and dream warriors is good but i kinda pay dust to the rest

Will be watching in order, but how is/what do you think of New Nightmare? I’ve read a lot of positive reactions

I stand by New Nightmare. Lots of fun meta gags for Nightmare fans.

I don't find it that scary but it has Wes Craven back at it while using a meta approach that he would later use for the Scream series

4 is passable for me, it's just that Michael's mask looks terrible and some scares really aren't up to par with how Carpenter made his character work. Like when Michael appears 4 times in the bedroom in different spots, terrorizing a little girl who has no idea he even exists or has seen him?

But the storyline continuation I enjoyed. Michael being in a coma after the explosion and coming out of it still strong/able to kill and walk around like nothing happened added to the creepiness of the supernatural evil behind him.

  16. Nightmare series is going to be interesting for me to sit through because I love the first film, but none of the others I've seen, including New Nightmare. I saw New Nightmare after reading praise for it in this thread and was particularly excited about the meta stuff (I love the Scream series), but I seem to remember being pretty bored with it. Then again, I saw it only knowing the first two films (and Freddy vs. Jason), so maybe it's better in the context of the entire series.
Oh yeah, I guess a big gripe I had was that there was absolutely no way Loomis could've survived that explosion, but at the same time, he's a saving grace of the series, so I wound up overlooking it haha. To be fair, I think I overlooked a lot of things for the sake of wanting to enjoy it and came out pleasantly surprised.

True dat. Donald Pleasance was a huge plus for the series.

Personally, I love Wes Craven's A New Nightmare. It was an experimental, first-time done type of horror movie. Nancy's return helped it a lot, and Freddy is actually creepy in that one. As for the others, everything past the 3rd movie is kind of a blur to me.

Yeah that's the third one. It's a good step up from the 2nd, but I also like the second. The first three and ANN are the ones Craven wrote.

Someone should do a montage of all of the times Dr. Loomis is talking about Michael Myers and how awful/evil he is to cops or other characters...

and then insert clips of Donald Trump after each one.

I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this... six-year-old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and... the blackest eyes - the Devil's eyes.
