I need to give it a truly proper listen, but the first 4 songs have me believing it is indeed better

at war with reality is....fine, but easily their worst album. to drink from the night itself definitely makes a case for sitting among their non-slaughter albums quality wise. at war was like, a modern at the gates album that ended up being only as good as the bands they influenced not necessarily better. this is like their modern at the gates album that's also a cut above the bands that arose in their absence.

It's SO good. I recommend the Zao episodes on the "Labeled" podcast I mentioned earlier. They're both about 40 minutes each. The stories about how they wrote and recorded some of these songs are crazy.

I’m reviewing this for the CMCS but this is a great listen for fans of Black Metal, prog Metal, etc.

    Wow! Where to start...
I would definitely start with Alive or Just Breathing.

The weakest I believe is the S/T.

I tend to gravitate to the records with Jesse as opposed to Howard but they are both impressive vocalists.

I think they are known for being a fairly consistent band.

so the newer stuff is definitely worth getting into too?

the new stuff isn't bad at all but it can be pretty unspectacular at times. AOJB and End of Heartache are definitely the way to go if you want their A game

Yes. I personally like Disarm the Descent more than Incarnate but they are both good.

In the same boat, completely agree this is a more traditional atg record and that's awesome

I haven't listened to Killswitch in years. That said, they make a damn good brand of metalcore. Alive or Just Breathing is a seminal album in the genre. I'm more of a Howard fan but that's just because I heard The End of Heartache before anything else. That album was pivotal in crossing me over to heavier music and playing guitar. As Daylight Dies was a solid effort too. Can't offer much more than that.

AOJB and EOH are both classics in my book. As Daylight Dies is decent, some solid tracks but also a bunch of filler too. Second S/T is pretty meh and unremarkable. The two recent records with Jesse back are pretty fun, nothing that tops anything else they put out but still standard KSE.

Also, KSE is without a doubt one of the best metal live acts around.

I have seen them at least 10 times and they KILL it every time. The connection the band has with each other and the crowd is amazing.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Other than the fact that everything Adam D. does annoys the shit out of me for some reason, Killswitch is a pretty consistent band that has been blessed to have two very talented frontmen over the course of their existence. I'd personally start with Alive or Just Breathing and work your way forward through their discography (the s/t is pretty good, but they didn't really start to find their footing until their second album).

I haven't really actively listened to either of the two new releases since Jesse has rejoined the band so this is a good reminder that I probably should do that...

Meh. Darkspace cancelled their MDF performance because of visa issues. At least Thantifaxath is their replacement...I've been dying to see them for a few years now since Sacred White Noise was released, so I ain't complaining too much at the end of the day:
