Kanye West - ye & Kids See Ghosts (June 1 & 8 2018) Album • Page 101

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by Matt Chylak, Mar 13, 2018.

  1. What you're saying "he meant" makes no sense with what he actually said. So, you're making a massive leap in logic to get to "mental slavery" after he used the words "400 years." If what he meant was "mental slavery" ... it does not follow from what he actually said.

  2. Do you just not know what words mean? Is that the issue here?

  3. Giving him the benefit of the doubt = assuming his "explanation" was what he actually meant despite every context clue pointing the other way instead of giving credence to the possibility that he was backtracking.

Honestly, I'm so over this entire conversation. Straw man, deflect and derail all you want, Kanye showed his hand and no amount of mental gymnastics changes that.

He literally tweeted what he meant, even if it makes no sense to you, or to anyone else, he attempted to clarify his words & thoughts. His example was terrible, his clarification was even still terrible, but he used the words "mental slavery", and that's all I was trying to say.

Giving him the "benefit of the doubt" isn't the expression to use when the person clarifies what they meant. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt when I interpreted his point on slavery as alluding to mental slavery, rather than physical slavery, but when the person, himself, states "I'm referring to mental slavery," I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt anymore, because he has stated what he actually meant.

  8. Nah, cuz what he "meant" conflicts with what he said. You're giving him the benefit of the doubt that he's telling the truth, instead of backtracking and covering. That's absolutely your choice, but anyone who still side-eyes the situation or is skeptical - again, because context clues matter - is well within their rights to do so.

That's what I was referring to. Why would you do that when he had made himself look like an irresponsible fool for weeks leading up to that comment?

And even after he "clarified what he actually meant", why would you believe him?

To be fair, that is being a hypocrite.
Oh, what? You have nothing left to say so now you will attempt to humiliate my intelligence?

  13. No, it's not.

Are you going to keep saying dumb things? If so, yeah, that's now where I'm at with this.

I think the ship has sailed on humiliating your intelligence.

Edit: To clarify, I was not calling you stupid. My words might have come off that way, but I am here to tell you that I did not call you stupid. No sir.

Doesn't want to support the artist, but will still listen to the music....?

  16. You said the thread was full of hypocrites in response to someone saying they're not going to support Kanye even if they like the new music.

First, "full of" implies that statement was referring to multiple people. Since you only quoted the one post, and the person you quoted wasn't even one of the people you were debating with, that's a logical inconsistency and a major leap. You failed to address the other "hypocrites" and as such, did not provide receipts.

Moreover, the original post wasn't even inherently hypocritical. I'll play along: you could argue for its hypocrisy in that listening to the music in order to find out if you like it is indirectly supporting him - although, that assumes a lot. First and foremost, it assumes that one's method of listening to the new music was legal and therefore would compensate Kanye either through numbers or monetary kickback. That isn't necessarily true or verifiable, so to say the original statement is inherently hypocritical simply isn't true.

The point being, words do in fact mean things and responding with conjecture and hyperbole to distract from the fact that people have valid reasons for disliking Kanye West at this point is tired.

In addition to your hypothetical situation:

You listen to the new album (let us say illegally so he doesn't get your precious streams), and you find out that the music is great, some of his best work. Now, another person comes along and asks you your thoughts on the new album, as they haven't had a chance to listen yet. Do you lie, as to not support the artist, or will you be honest? And yes, supporting the artist doesn't just mean said artists receive your money, but also through recommending their work to another, or praising their work to another.

If you look at the whole of what kendrick has been saying and preaching for the last like three years that's simple to over look. If you look at the whole of what kanye has been saying and preaching for the last three years.....I mean come on this isn't hard this is extremely basic stuff

  22. And now you're assuming THAT would happen. In case you missed it, here was the point: Calling someone a hypocrite based on a hypothetical is ridiculous and unproveable.

You better get your ellipsis right next time, wouldn't want Mr.HollierThanThou, Jason Tate, to get on your case.
