a problem i have meeting people is that i don't think i'm worth being friends with because i never have money to do anything so i'm stuck at home most of the time. friends are expensive. same with relationships. and therapists.

hmm that could work but idk I just always assume regardless of what people say, if they're on there they aren't looking for friends
I might look into some of those groups. what would you use to find them? I've used Meetup before, but people are usually older or kind of awkard and nothing really clicked

check out the facebook pages of the breweries, they'll typically post about the weekly/monthly hike/run meetup or any events they're having at their brewery. Or check out the Events section on your facebook and filter by activities or outdoors and just scroll to find something that looks like it would interest you and could be a good introductory or new member type thing?

NTDSA is real active on twitter. If you have any anxiety or nervousness about doing anything with NTDSA before going to a meeting or something, check to see if they have a new member orientation or one-on-one's available. Reach out to Kristian (@kksteffany) | Twitter . she's the co-chair of NTDSA and hella active on twitter.

Breweries are a great idea, Chase. My work does a monday ride with a local bicycle shop and our brewery isn't open on monday's but my boss bartends/opens it for the bike group after their ride and they drink discounted beers.

also sadly I have self control drinking and rarely get past 5 or so beers
I have been using Facebook mainly for events. Usually not social things though. I'm not very active on twitter but may reach out to her, thanks!

I need to get out to the breweries here. There are a lot of them but I feel like I need to go with someone

Just sit at the bar of a brewery Chase. I know it can feel a little stressful and like you need to go with someone, but a lot of times the bartender is super awesome and easy to strike a conversation with. I've met a few friends just by hanging out at the bar, and that includes a bartender.

Yep, joe is right. I always loved chatting up people that are sitting alone at the bar when I'm the bartender. Easier to have a conversation with them than interjecting into a conversation they're having with a friend. Now, as a consumer, I enjoy sitting alone at the bar, too, for the same reasons.

once you clear the mental hurdle of overcoming initial awkwardness it's really easy to talk to people at bars

@ChaseTx I took Bear to Station 26 last night with Ashley from the dog park and i swear 90% of the patio came up to me and asked about Bear. Even whenever we were in line at a BBQ food truck to order, I had a woman trying to keep conversation going asking about her and me showing her what tricks Bear knows now. I was too focused on ordering to really keep conversation going, but that's also a cheat way to talk to strangers. ask about their dog or their tattoo or their band tshirt. if you had your pheobe bridgers shirt on, how stoked would you be if someone asked you about her and struck up a conversation that way? you just have to be the one to strike it up sometimes.

guess I should also not stare at my phone the whole time when I'm there alone. I'll give it a try!

piggy backing off what dylan said above- sometimes people are going to want to be left alone, and that's okay! rejection is part of it and you just have to learn to not take it personally. but more times than not, i've found that people do not mind when i strike up a convo with them. i've had a lot of great conversations with random guys and girls in the past couple of months. just gotta get out there and try. i back what joe and mike were saying hard, start with chatting with your bartender. it's a great way to ease yourself into social interactions.

i still maintain that drinking a lot helps
