Liz Phair announced more tour dates today. She's playing Dertroit Sept 13th and Minneapolis Sept. 15th before heading to Seattle the 18th, so I could see her stopping by the Friday of Riot Fest pretty easily. Those dates mixed with how small the Chicago show is are making her seem very likely to me.

It's technically two separate runs, but she's hitting up Boston once in June and then again on that second leg... It would be a little odd for her to announce a show like that (400 capacity isn't tiny) and have a festival appearance pop-up.

I think she's still feasible (maybe doing Exile in Guyville), but probably won't be announced as part of the first wave. Just a guess.

Doesn't the fact that she announced another Boston show on the 2nd run actually help support that she would have another Chicago show? It seems like the first run is smaller shows and she's doing larger theaters in the fall. 400 isn't tiny? She sold that show out pretty much instantly. Her show is sold out, so there's no reason to hold her back from the line up announcement. It's a win-win cus she won't lose personal ticket sales, and fans bummed they can't go will be able to know they have a second chance without paying ridiculous ticket prices.

Ah! I didn't realize the Chicago show was sold out! My bad! Yeah, that makes a lot of sense then... Sorry! Hah.

The first Boston show is sold out too. If she plays Riot, I'd be really stoked about that too! For exactly the reason you stated (being able to see her live--I kinda refuse to do StubHub or whatever).

No worries, but yea that's why I think this first run was intentionally small venues and then she planned for the fall tour to be the bigger tour.

Ok also I'm looking closer at the dates in the summer vs. fall and she is returning to every city from the summer tour, except Chicago and Wichita, KS. No offense to KS, but it makes sense to not return there. I'm calling her at Riot Fest lock.

Parkway Drive, Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red, Polaris are all out based on their new tour.

Tenacious D is out as well.

North Coast Lineup is out and doesn't really rule out anyone that we have discussed except Jamiroquai, which we already knew.

Interesting because it makes me really think NERD and Father John Misty are playing this.

Also I think I figured out where Janet Jackson fits in. Common has his AAHHFEST that was skipped last year and supposed to return September 15 this year. She'd make way way more sense for that than for Riot Fest. I guess it's possible Riot Fest is really going for a gamble but idk it just seems too far out of left field for them to book her.

PS Sorry I'm spamming the thread today lol I'm getting over excited

Well, that's little to no overlap... Unless I'm more out of touch than I think?

I think we can call N.E.R.D. and Father John Misty locks. Not as headliners, but definitely in a 2nd or 3rd line position. Those are two really great gets for Riot Fest, honestly... In terms of booking smartly (but still fitting with their "style") and pulling "typical" festival acts that normally would have gone to Lollapalooza.

The only plausible potential overlap I could think of might be Moon Taxi (other than a left field act like Jamiroquai)...and even then, they fit more of a Lolla vibe than Riot Fest.

Are we still convinced that Beck is a top three headliner? He feels more like a second line act to me considering the headliners they've had the last few years.

Not that they were getting any mentions here in the first place, but Murder by Death is out. They just announced a Chicago show in October.

Based on 2017, eh maybe not, but based on 2016, yea. I think he can easily compete with Morrissey, The Flaming Lips, or Ween. He's not quite on the level of QOTSA or NIN, and Jawbreaker is obviously a different situation altogether.

I could see it going either way. I think if he's a headliner he's probably the smallest of the 3, or maybe even doing a co-headlining thing like The Flaming Lips and Ween with someone else.

I used to think Beck wasn’t big enough to headline but then I saw he had a show at MSG and two dates at Red Rock. He’s definitely bigger than we think.

That gap in Liz Phair's schedule has me so happy. Can't wait to bawl my eyes out.

I'm still not convinced he's a top-liner. The fact that he rarely ever tours or plays shows probably helps a bunch with those solo shows... I just don't think of him as being a major festival draw, I guess. Probably just depends on who all else is on the bill as to where he lands.

Only reason I'm not completely sold on NERD is that theyre in California for a festival that weekend too, but I suppose it's really not difficult for Pharrell to fly across the country.

Good point. And they seem to be doing sporadic appearances too. It's not like they have a massive tour planned... They may be out because of that.

And actually, Alice in Chains are on that too. With a date in Arizona on the 15th. They're out.

Yea I just noticed that about AIC. NERD still seems possible cus they could do a friday/sunday thing, but AIC has two dates on the east coast that weekend and they are in like MO the week before so it doesn't make sense they'd go back and forth.

Yo La Tengo announced Midwest dates with no Chicago date, with this routing.

    9/13 Buffalo
    9/14 Detroit
    9/15 Cleveland
    9/16
    9/17 St. Louis, MO

Oh man I hope they play. I missed them at Thalia Hall a few months ago and was really bummed about that.
