I've had MAGA stuck in my head for like three days and I fucking hate it.

Why does that piece of criticism necessitate comic form? It's just four panels of a single paragraph and two panels of lyrics with no action whatsoever.

I'd hoped Frank Turner and Arkells touring non-stop together would be great, but from the sounds of this thread they've both just gotten worse somehow

Read through Frank's live-tweet of a record-listen, some interesting excerpts from the feed that make it clear he has heard his share of criticisms on this record.

    on "MAGA"

    on "Going Nowhere"

    on "Get It Right"

unrelated to criticisms, apparently "Blackout" was the song he had in mind when he said he wanted to make "club music"...not what my mind first went to.

This CD is a real head-scratcher for me. It seems wildly inconsistent. Maybe it's the order of the songs? I did not understand why 1933 was followed up by Little Changes. That really threw me for a loop.

My friend has decided he's going to sing "Let's make humanity great again", as it's the same syllables. I'm pretty okay with that switch.

That still works in the context of the song. I get why Frank wanted to flip the term to make it about something positive. I get why people can’t get past the person who used the term as a message of separation. I think Be More Kind will grow on me over time, and I really like some songs on it. It does have filler moments to me. Doesn’t change my overall enjoyment of Frank’s music

thats really lame, i’m sure franks net profits from this festival are not hurt one pound from a few buttons. Also not the first story ive heard about how some of the people in his touring crew are complete assholes.

it was a link to a facebook post someone made about how they were upset because they made custom pins/buttons that said "Frank Fest" to give out to their friends at the Lost Evenings festival, something like 50 or so pins, and Franks merch manager came up to her and told her to stop because Frank was pissed about the buttons and said "its like selling fake merch outside the venue" or somehting to that effect, and the girl apparently messaged Frank to explain or apologize and the merch manager replied to the email laughing at her or something.

Thanks. That's pretty messed up if its the full story. So much for "being more kind" I guess

I’m surprised Frank didn’t respond via email to them? He is an incredibly honest, easy to reach musician and hell he’s responded to me via email 2-3 times.

The tour manager laughing about it is quite a douchebag response. I mean Frank & crew were the ones upset over free buttons, why laugh if this fan tried to reach out to Frank personally to communicate/apologize/make it right?

Frank does keep saying “there’s more to the story we don’t know” so I’m curious what that could mean.

Yeah he seems to be taking a very defensive stance to this, i really wonder what “more to the story” there could be about “getting involved with peoples personal affairs”. At face value it seems like he’s creating more out of nothing to make his team not seem like dicks but who knows, i wasnt there.

Is this a current story or an old story? His friend just died a few days ago, and not getting back to fans and being pissy isn’t some unheard of response during times like these.

And yeah, it is a business, an if she sold 1 of those 100 pins she could be said as trying to profit off him and it’d get that. If she made them for friends and distributed them before or outside of the venue for free...we’ll then they are just pins and you really can’t worry about it because the only person taking a loss is the person made and gave away free pins. Sell them at the next show.

I wonder if something happened at past shows with this and this person was told not to and then they did it anyways again?
Just wondering what could spring such an angry response over free buttons haha.

I do agree he could be in a poor mental state due to Scott’s death and isn’t thinking 100% clearly. Not that it’s an excuse to be rude, just a reason for a lashing out over something rather minor.

I literally justtt read a reply someone posted that made this seem exactly like whats going on, like the person making the buttons has done stuff like this before and been asked to stop, and has continued to push the limits. Lame all around it looks like.

If they claim to have been to 138 shows, that’s a lot of shows. It seemed like an exact number instead of hyperbole. Sometimes super fans cross lines unintentionally, or maybe there was miscommunication, or sense of self entitlement, but this situation really doesn’t seem like it needs to be out in the public.

And complaining about Frank not replying or getting back to the fan means this fan feels a reply was owed. If you’ve seen his Twitter, he’s mourning the loss of a friend. Life still goes on, but I’d not be interested in dealing with stuff like pins or buttons at times like this. There or more important things. Hopefully everyone involved can just work it out an move forward in a positive manner

Aside from anything else, Frank would surely be within his rights to ask them not to distribute the badges surely? It's his show and his name which they're plastering on the things. He/ his team might not want people passing these things as official merch, which is entirely possible.

I don't know enough about this story yet, but I am willing to give Frank and his team the benefit of the doubt here. If they asked someone to stop doing that and the person did anything other than stopping right away I feel like the person is in the wrong.

I know Frank is a successful touring musician but I have no idea what that means in real world numbers. I don't know what kind of money he makes and how it compares to what I make at my job . I know if someone was stealing a little bit of money from me and my family and I asked them to stop and they didn't I would be pretty upset .

I don't think the suicide of his friend is really affecting his stance on the whole issue here, though it may be why it was more his team responding and dealing with the situation as opposed to him personally .

Maybe just don’t make bootleg merch and then whine when they call you out on it?
