This is interesting and it always gets me thinking when people compare bands that are on face value so different. I often have a hard time seeing the comparison when the music is so different, but normally when I delve into it, it's true. I think the 1975 will have wider success and be appreciated more in the moment than in nostalgia. What they're doing seems a bit more timeless than MCR as their albums all fit within the respective time period and genre. I would say that nothing the 1975 have released was really a genre album or will sound outdated in 5 years times.

i dont think the black parade sounds dated and my chemical romance doing what they did on the black parade in the modern era definitely laid the foundation for what the 1975 has done on their cycles

I guess dated is the wrong word. I just meant it's an album that I'll always be able to pinpoint exactly when it came out. For the 1975, in a decades times, it'll be much be harder for me to hit on exactly when it was released. I suppose it's less of the music, and more of the fact that MCR was an album released in formative years and now music is just background music at work, rather than the soundtrack to growing up. It'll never sound like anything other than a mid 2000's emo (sorry!) album (albeit one that stood the test of time and in retrospect was on a whole other level).

i dont know how you could possibly make that call but ILIWYS has defined so much of my life in the last two years i dont think i'll be able to separate it from the time when it came out ever, and that's a good thing. tbp, three cheers, they take me back to a specific time and they're two of my favorite albums ever. ILIWYS is one of my favorite albums ever. so idunno. makes sense to me.

Anyone got a comprehensive list of all this band's earlier stuff? Looking for any demos or stuff they released before Facedown.

Were you the one who said the 1975 picked up where MCR left off? That take has really stuck with me, and must be why both bands resonate with me.

Listening to The 1975 playlist I have (judge me) and this band just brings great memories back to me and makes me look forward to music that I completely fell off with before. I remember listening to Say Anything's Baseball and IARB and the grittiness and raw aspect of this was basically what drew me into music. Now the new albums are a bit divided and I still love those but listening to old Drive Like I Do with the rawness to it and then to The 1975 just gives me this sheer utter joy once more and I can honestly say that they might be my favourite band of recent times.

That being said; We Are The Street Fighters is a jam.

  16. I don't know if this has been said, but it seems like on 1 June we'll get some kind of release titled "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" maybe a short film accompanied by music they've scored, or maybe it's almost like 4 music videos/songs in 1 continuous film.

Just seems like now that Matty tweeted "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" it's too much a thing on it's own to not be it's own piece of work

Idk guys personally I’m much more excited for “A Brief Inquiry Into Chorus.fm Relationships”, where Marty dissects the various beefs, in-jokes, and love-hate-love (mostly hate) friendships in song form.

It's 100% the name of the single, they released the lyrics. Need to read them again in light of this new info, but I'm getting heavy CS Lewis / John Rawls vibes.
