You're right. I was thinking of 2016. That actually helps their case. I think they'll do an aftershow again this year.

I still think that article messed up and didn't realize that the lineup they were on was from last year. I don't see any other reason to think that whoever wrote that knows who is playing Riot Fest this year and Skating Polly just played last year.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Eh. I could see them repeating. They'd be a low-level side stage band so speculation there is pretty much always moot because there are always names out of left field completing that lineup.

Pretty sure we already ruled them out but JEW will be in California during this time

When did we all start saying the line-up was released around May 7th? I just looked back at it all again, and it looks like it's come out on/around May 13th-15th most years. Haha. That being said, I'm wondering if we might be stuck waiting another week...

They opened the main stage last year. If they were a band that was gaining a bit more buzz this year than last, or were a local Chicago band I could see them repeating... But I think Pokinatcha's probably right; the site just screwed up.

Yeah, they're doing that one festival on Friday and another show in Cali on the Saturday. So they're definitely out.

Yea I actually think we'll get it May 16th. Lolla usually releases the daily schedules next week, so I doubt the Riot line up releases in the same week (although really I don't know if that would have any bearing on it).

Yeah we're definitely looking at May 15-17 timeframe I think

    Ugh lol

What is the Movielife up to? they released an album recently and would be good candidates to play.

I know that's a joke, but I think this could be the year that Lagwagon shows up.

They're on tour with New Found Glory. Or will be whenever that tour starts up. They're playing HOB Chicago on June 4th and 5th. Doesn't rule them out, but I'd say it's unlikely that they wind up on the bill.

They played a few years ago, they also have a Chicago show with NFG soon so not sure

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I’m surprised they haven’t played yet tbh. They placed the Denver one back in 2016, so it seems like they should be in any year now...

Same thing goes for Strung Out (They okayed Denver 2014)

Same, hah. Both bands are probably pretty selective with when/where they play, these days so that's probably part of it.

But with an album coming out Strung Out will probably be more active than usual--and Lagwagon is doing a whole bunch of festivals in Europe before/after Riot Fest. So... It could make sense this year.

Would waiting for Rock on the Range to pass be a factor? They're both major alternative Midwest music festivals.

Also even though the National is out, maybe EL VY would play?

Probably not unless it's a headliner who had something in their contract with RotR saying that other shows couldn't be announced until after the fact.

I can see that being the case if it were for Tool or APC. Maybe. But not for any of the other bands (in fact, the only headliner on there I'd expect to see at Riot would be Alice in Chains).

I'm not sure how it's played out historically with the dates of the Riot Fest announcement versus RotR, but the headliners don't usually overlap between the two.

I doubt it. I don't think that project is very active, and I'm sure Aaron's focusing on the National this year.

Would Hop Along be disqualified if they play in June?

Lagwagon is playing Let's Talk About Feelings in full at Fest, wouldn't surprise me if they did the same at Riot Fest.

Most definitely. Especially if Tool headlines.

Was last year the first year they did stages that felt very "genre" specific? It felt like the main stage on Friday was a lot of classic punk and/or 80s type stuff, and one of the stages each day tended to have most of the hip-hop or reggae, then there was a full-on "easy core" pop-punk stage the one day, etc.

    Where are your friends tonight?

She has shows in Cleveland and Canada on the Friday and Saturday, she’s out (unfortunately).

They've all but confirmed on Twitter today that it'll be coming next week. They keep referencing the "usual" time the line-up gets announced, etc.

Related: The Wombats are doing a fairly large-scale US tour that starts at the end of September and skips Chicago. I think we can count them in as a strong possibility.
