I think a lot of his struggles came from a lack of experience. I think he has the tools but he only started one season at UNC. And his one year in Chicago so far was on a terrible team with a bad coaching staff for his style of play. He was always going to take a little time to develop. It didn’t help that he was thrown into a bad situation. Nagy sounds like a great fit for him and they’ve added a nice mixture of talent around him.

I don’t think he’s slow and awkward like you’ve stated. One of the stronger parts of his game his how accurate he is throwing on the run. He definitely has the ability to move around the pocket and create time for his receivers. He can also take off if needed. He’s more athletic than what he’s shown so far.

 

I meant his decision making and throwing motion / release etc are slow

The slower you are between seeing a receiver, making a decision, and throwing, the more of a jump the whole defense gets on you right before you release the ball.

For reference:
-Dak Prescott as a passer is slow / awkward like that too... but he's more accurate and more conservative than Trubisky, better at pocket movement, plus he has the O-Line to wait around in the pocket sometimes as well, so he comes out with better numbers.

-Flacco is also slow when he improvises, but he knows how to use his footwork to time the release point of his throws, which makes him play faster. He's at his best in a rhythm heavy scheme. Maybe that's what Trubisky needs since his footwork isn't as bad as Dak's.

-Bortles was a slow decision maker up until last year. I saw much more confident and simplified decision making, partially because you can tell Hackett's playbook lends itself to his skillset in ways that Olson's vertical offense did not. Fournette also forced teams to stop sitting back in zone so much as well -- defenses can't disguise their calls as often when they have to play size matchups in the box / when they are forced into man-to-man coverage.

So? To me this just means he was coached properly lol. The learning curve is already done. He plays like a seasoned veteran. Yeah it's lucky that he had an uninterrupted, smooth trajectory learning behind Tom Brady... and that explains why he became my #7 QB in the NFL haha. I don't think that automatically implies there's a slump coming. The film and the stats both say he's the real deal.

I know that other Brady backups haven't done as well, and that's why people want to temper their expectations, but i mean just watch Jimmy, seriously, turn on his 5 wins. It's clear as bright ass daylight that he absorbed a lot of things from the greatest QB to play the game. It was obvious from their first games on other teams that Cassel / Mallett / Brissett didn't glean nearly as much from that situation.

Haha! Yeahhhh knew that was gonna stir the pot a little bit. Keep in mind Jimmy did what he did last year with a barren roster. He singlehandedly pumped morale and confidence into a team that had lost like 10 straight games.

Not taking anything away from Wentz, but my #25 QB can win with the Eagles too haha.

I think both will have long starting careers, but gimme Wentz tbh

 

Jimmy G's vision, his accuracy, and the pace at which he plays are all astounding. Plus he has perfect mechanics / release. I'm gonna stand by my opinion! These rankings are fluid though, Wentz isn't done developing obviously.

 

If you want a concrete reason why Jimmy is better than Wentz, it's because he reads plays way faster. Wentz is an AMAZING improviser but he def gets himself into trouble waiting too long to throw.

I do think that if Doug unleashes Foles to end the regular season the postseason goes differently. I think that since the 1 seed was basically locked up he played Foles safe so that teams weren’t ready for him in the postseason.

I think it’s much more coaching than roster.
