EKMB is tied with TDH as my favorite album of his, with PSFNP just a hair below the other two. Honestly though, PSFNP has only gotten better for me with time and it's a relatively new album, so who knows - maybe I'll have a 3-way tie in the future.

*Any of my personal rankings of Frank's albums are based on my versions of the albums, where I swap in the b-sides I love and take out the tracks that I don't like as much.

  3. This might be a hot take, but most of his discography was 60% killer, 40% filler for me until PSFNP, which is why it was one of my favorite records of 2015 (and easily his best imo). The only records that might defy that are LS&I and EKMB, but even then, it's questionable.

A lot of the stuff in the middle feels like b-side material to me. It’s weird, when I interviewed him he said he really wanted to stretch himself and experiment on this record, but most of it sounds very safe.

I think this is one of the things I am struggling with about the album. I think I built up all sorts of expectations about what kind of album Frank was going to make after going back to the drawing board when things like Trump and Brexit happened, and this album is certainly not anything like any of my expectations. Like I said before, I respect the hell out of the sentiment behind it, but so far I am not enjoying the album all that much. Especially in a time when so much great music is coming out.

  6. Yeah, the press release I got calling PSFNP more stripped-back and this more rock-based seemed strange, too. I will say, the one addition I absolutely love are the string sections.

I'll give you an even hotter take -- Poetry of the Deed is the best (IMO, of course)

This album being called 'more rock-based' than PSFNP is one of the main things that makes me think he left some bangers on the cutting room floor. Perhaps whoever wrote that had been privy to the material he had been recording prior to the ultimate tracklist being decided.

I think a lot of this album isn't him stretching himself so much in the writing, but sonically.

There are a lot of studio things in this album that couldn't happen without him spending extra time in the studio, so I guess I get in that way he stretched himself.

  10. Most boring album I've heard this year so far. It just completely passed me by. Some of the lyrics... yikes yikes YIKES. At least Sand in the Gears isn't on here.

It's funny, aside from Glory, If Ever I Stray has always been my least favourite on that album but listening back I like it more than anything on here.

Ha, i mean my username is a good indicator of how biased I am towards that album.

Love, Ire & Song is a near perfect album.

  15. Gotta revisit Love Ire & Song, it's easily my second favorite but there are three tracks I can't remember anything about

  21. "Imperfect Tense," "To Take You Home," and "A Love Worth Keeping." Not saying they're bad or anything, I just can't remember how they go. It was the first Frank Turner album I heard, but I don't think I've listened to it in a few years.

"To Take You Home" and "A Love Worth Keeping" are both top 5 contender's for me. The latter might be my favourite Frank song. "Imperfect Tense" is probably the weakest on that album but still great.

Fisher King might be my least favourite on TDH, lol. It's always funny to me how everyone's favourite is going to be someone's least.

"Brave Face" would be a good song if it didn't seem like those were the only two words in the song.
