I'd go to the Chicago show but of course it's the same day as the Chicago Marathon. Gonna go out on a limb and say that I won't be ready for a concert after that.

I just realized The Used's spring tour doesn't have a Chicago date.

I just said "fuck it" and reserved a hotel for the weekend. Locks me into a rate before shit blows up even more than it already has cost-wise... And if I don't go? I can just cancel.

I don't know why I get so anxious about that shit.

I have a bunch of friends moving to Chicago after graduation so I can stay for free this year. I’ll probably go if the lineup is lit

Is this your first marathon? If so, my guess is the soreness and tiredness will keep you at home. I have done a few and the idea of lounging and eating whatever food has always sounded good to me. Like, I would go out to eat, but the idea of standing at a concert doesn't sound super fun. Luckily, Chicago is pretty flat, so you won't have additional wear and tear from downhills. You will just have the regular soreness that comes with doing 26.2 miles haha.

Oh I'm aware. That dude has a ton of songs that still slap.

10/10 would start a pit at a Randy Newman show

It will be my first full marathon. I've run 3 halfs and 2 overnight relay races where I ran 17-20 miles broken up in spurts (Ragnar race).

That said, pretty sure the Chicago venue is sit-down as it is an old theatre.

Nice! Good luck with the training. It should be a fun experience for you.

I think this is the same theater I am seeing Jason Isbell at, which also happens to be Friday of Riot Fest.

Father John Misty's tour doesn't have a Chicago date and starts 9/20 in Milwaukee.

He's definitely doing this or North Coast. I just don't know if I can really see him at Riot. But I guess there's no reason he wouldn't really fit.

To be honest I wish he was playing a theater in Chicago, but I'll take what I can get.

Man, I really hope we're in for a few surprises when the line-up drops. Last year caught me totally off guard in a really fun way... And I'm hoping that this year does the same. Because if half the speculation about the headliners/sub-headliners is true? It's just not going to be for me unless the undercard is truly spectacular. The undercard usually is awesome, but it also tends to reflect some of the bigger acts on the bill too.

I'm hoping they have a few things up their sleeve that most of us haven't even thought of... Or that we thought weren't going to happen.

Looking at the North Coast line-ups the last few years, I think he'd be a better fit there by a long shot, but I think he would work at Riot Fest too as a sub-headliner (especially if he were paired up with somebody like Beck as a headliner).

I'm sure we are not quite right. A lot of these guesses could end up not panning out. There will definitely be surprises.

But yea he definitely fits North Coast. I know Grouplove closed one of the side stages a few years ago, and I could easily see the same thing happening here (FJM closing out against an EDM or rap act).

Yeah, I'm sure some of these will wind up not happening and a few others will come from way out of left field. Haha.

At this point? I just can't wait to see the line-up.

I can definitely see that. He's a more natural fit for that festival, but I don't think it would be too crazy for him to play Riot either. I think the difference is -- at North Coast he'd be a "headliner" and at Riot Fest, he'd be on the second or third line.

I'm really hoping next week. I think it would make sense, it seems like it's coming. And yea I mean he'd work at Riot Fest, especially if he's subbing for Beck. That would be pretty cool to see FJM into Beck.

I bought a Jawbreaker ticket just in case RF isn’t for me, I’m sure I can unload it if necessary but that show just sounds so fun.

I'm thinking we'll be getting it sometime between Monday and Wednesday of next week. Probably Wednesday.

I'd imagine having FJM go into Beck would have the same effect having Dinosaur Jr. play right before Jawbreaker on the same stage felt for folks last year, haha.

Sounds about right! It'd be rad if Speedy Ortiz played too.

I know much of the discussion has been around the top three and related sub-headliners (or the bottom of the undercard) but...

I'm actually thinking this year could be pretty good for the whole "90s punk" thing with Rancid being a possibility, and none of the Punk in Drublic Fest dates hitting Illiniois. I'm feeling like it'll be a NOFX and Bad Religion year. A bit repetitive with those three, but it could also be the year they finally get Lagwagon, Strung Out, etc.

Also? If Goldfinger plays I bet we also get MxPx, given that Mike plays bass for them now.

Same! It would be nice if they branched out a bit, though, and booked some of the middling bands from that era that they haven't had yet. Lagwagon, Strung Out, the Suicide Machines, Unwritten Law, H2O, MxPx, etc. I feel like we've had this conversation before. Haha.

Since we're talking punk rock: I'd love to see the Street Dogs this year too. With a new album out, I feel like they're going to be more active than usual.

I know Against Me! is playing the Wicker Park festival this summer with Sincere Engineer, Typesetter, and Dave Hause.
