a billionaire exploiting thousands of workers and scooping up competing and complementing software companies limiting competitiveness in the marketplace to further increase the scope and size of his company, but all of this is forgotten because he's "philanthropic" which allows a free pass of sorts for how we view and judge millionaires and billionaires like him and elon musk for space exploration and others that use portions of their (stolen) wealth for pet projects that "help" humanity when in an ideal situation that wealth would be in the hands of the workers and those they are helping or in the public sector programs that use the technological and scientific advances for the public good.

We don't live in an ideal situation though, Dylan, so why wouldn't we grade millionaires and billionaires on a curve and say that Bill Gates is, by and large, a 'good' billionaire? I agree that the wealth being distributed more evenly is a better thing, but that's just a pipe dream in America that I feel like the left clings to too much. It's just not a plausibility.

billionaires are bad by the virtue of being a billionaire. what it takes to reach that level of wealth rests on the back of the workers and environmental degradation. it's only a pipe dream because we choose to view it as such. there is absolutely nothing implausible or impossible about fundamentally changing the way our political and economic systems work. it's happened all throughout history, and I'm willing to bet it'll happen here in the US eventually. It has to or we will reach a point where wealth and resource distribution will kill the non-wealthy at an astronomical rate rather than an incremental one like what has been happening now. that, or climate change will kill us. and there is 0 incentive for the current system to do anything about it on a scale that is necessary to mitigate the consequences.

 

Even Bill Gates impersonators are problematic apparently
