The lyrics are genuinely the sole reason you wouldn't even bother listening to something? If your favorite band ever released the lyrics to a new song and they were horrible, you would be dissuaded from even trying to listen? Because that's literally what you're arguing here - that lyrics are what make or break a song

I was moreso referring to you saying there are "so, so many shitty lyrics in great songs" lol

so does that mean you think there is a theoretical amount of "goodness" that music / production can be added to a song to counteract any vileness and filth in the lyrics that the song as a whole somehow becomes "good"?

I strongly disagree. Sure, meaningless random lyrics can be turned into a good song. And even some borderline questionable lyrics can still be enjoyable. But at a certain point (which the couple of Attila songs I've seen the lyrics too certainly cross), lyrics can become too toxic for the song to possibly be redeemable.

If my favorite band released a song full of violent, demeaning lyrics that put down women/POC/other minorities they would no longer be my favorite band. Might still listen to the old stuff depending on just how bad the lyrics were, but also could just toss them all away (gets into the whole separate the art from the artists thing)

I think there are songs where I can’t even tell what a band is saying and if I heard them without reading the lyrics I’d have no idea what the lyrics are.

But of course I also think vile lyrics can be a part of great art. Plenty of songs and artists contain them/that I think are great songs/bands in-spite of the lyrics. Kanye West, The Beatles, Vince Staples, The Rolling Stones ... all have lyrics I find “vile” off the top of my head.

I don't really care about being spoiled at all for the most part. For example I'm in this thread and haven't seen the movie yet

Only thing I actively avoid spoilers for is Star Wars

yeah I'm gonna disagree with you there. I think there are certainly songs that are just too much to be properly enjoyed, even if I like the rest of the artist's stuff. Depending on just how bad the song is, it might just lessen my enjoyment of the song or I might dislike it enough to always skip it when it comes on. but there is definitely a limit at which a song is no longer enjoyable

  9. And if you can’t tell what they’re saying? What if it’s screamed or turned into pure noise? Run through a processor? What if it’s in a language you don’t know? What if it’s a made up language? Just reading the lyrics tells you so little about a song, and just reading the lyrics to one song tells you so little about a band and the music itself.

I can pick out lyrics to some of the most important bands and respected artists **of all time** that would horrify people.

Ok so I actually tried to figure out what this means and what this fight is about I couldn't but whatever I just woke up. Alligator rules, alligator>caution rules, a rare gem. Great songs can have dumb lyrics but this isn't one of them because these lyrics aren't dumb.

(Also I bet you had to search way longer for dumb/nonsenical GD lyrics than you thought you would)

Infinity War scored the highest Saturday with $80 million. Good word of mouth is definitely boosting this.

Seeing this at 11:30. Really hope Thanos doesn’t get his hands on the Triforce.

This thread took an odd turn.

Anyway, I liked this movie. I think they did some cool, unexpected things with character groupings that allowed (most) of the heroes to shine.

I think my favorite line in the movie is when peter says “I’m sorry” right before he turns to ash. That had to have killed stark emotionally. I’m still so glad they finally got spider man right

No one's talking about the eyeball callback, which was 100% the best example of longterm easter egg planning in the entire MCU. I would read a whole interview with whoever came up with that... hope they got a huge bonus.

one thing I’ve consistently thought of while skimming this thread is how often it was mentioned that the deaths after The Snap are cheapened knowing most of them will come back to life is how this is one of the most consistent themes in western story telling.

Especially in a movie that is literally constantly about sacrifice, why wouldn’t ensuing resurrection also be a theme?

Gandalf’s death isn’t cheapened by his return as Gandalf the White. Aslan’s death isn’t cheapened by his return. Harry Potter’s death isn’t cheapened by his. Their sacrifices all held a purpose.

Granted—all of the mentioned are Christ narratives, and I don’t think Avengers is going for that at all. But thematically it ties into the larger canon of story telling influenced by Christianity’s main hold over western storytelling for over a thousand years now.

    Just a thought I had.

I’m biased but my favorite character in this was Spider-Man by a long shot. When strange was opening the portals and was jumping in and out saying “magic” each time I absolutely lost it in the theaters.

That is my baseless speculation too. My guess is either the end of the movie or a post credits scene shows us Scott seeing the shit going down on Earth on TV, or one of Antman, The Wasp, or Hank disappearing

Spider-Man is now by far my favourite MCU character and I am so glad they have managed to get the awkward kid right. Spider-Man has been my favourite Marvel character for so long and this iteration is just fantastic. Tom Holland absolutely smashes this performance.

The toll on Stark will be absolutely terrifying. Especially since when Peter appeared on the ship and said to Stark something like "This is your fault i'm here" (can't remember exactly) and then he dies at the end. Tony has tried so hard to protect him and now this happens It just shows that there are stakes and losses and the Avengers are more divided and broken than before.

My problem with spoilers is that what constitutes a spoiler has gotten extreme, like a character dying that's a spoiler, a twist that's a spoiler, a character being in a movie isn't a spoiler that shit is on IMDB
