Avengers: Infinity War (Joe & Anthony Russo, April 27, 2018) Movie • Page 65

  1. I don’t think we should be classifying the the characters going the way of ash as deaths - I don’t think Thanos or the movie every explicitly said “kill” more that he could make half the population disappear with a snap so I don’t think those should carry the weight of death like vision or Gamora did

He said “cease to exist” but I don’t know if being erased from existence counts as a death. Dying is when a living organism has its cells and tissue permanently shut down. If everything is suddenly erased, soul and all, would it actually be the process of death?

Maybe I’m thinking too much about what classified as death

One of my favorite moments, that I keep remembering, is Red Skull on the soul stone planet.

It's such a weird, fan-service-y, random decision that is so completely my jam. Almost reminds me of original comic book Fury's current Watcher-ish status quo.

Will the real deaths be permanent? Gamora, Vision, Loki?

Loki and Vision are most likely permanent. Gamora could go either way. If they want her back they could easily craft a way to do it with the Soul stone. According to set photos we’ll see 2012 Loki during the NY battle but it doesn’t mean the current Loki is revived.

  11. Isn't Loki a gold mine for Marvel? After Ragnarok I can see execs pushing some sort of Thor & Loki trilogy.

Loki has been such a joy in the MCU, his presence will be missed.

Like literally the only redeemable quality of Thor 2

If he isn’t on contract for another film then it would be difficult. I feel like Feige is aware that these movies won’t last forever and that there needs to be an end for each character. Execs who want to try to keep characters alive for the sake of money instead of what’s best for the story are completely losers.

Are we going to ignore the fact that Homecoming ended with Peter saving the day by once again ignoring Tony's orders, which is what made him offer a position in The Avengers in the first place?

I don't think Peter's reasoning of him being unable to be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if there's no neighborhood is that hard to believe. He always thought it would be cool to be an Avenger, so the excitement was always there for him, he was just trying to make a responsible decision at the time when there wasn't such imminent danger.

  18. Peter's thinking process in these movies is that of a kid his age. He just wants in on the action and to live up to Tony's expectations.

At the end of Homecoming that was taking things slow, in this movie it's helping him save the world.

That person was me and I was only asking because you mentioned not liking choices made with Peter Parker in this film. It’s a little obtuse to act like you were being asked for a whole script.

Here’s a clearer question: What are 1-2 bullet point thoughts you have on how this movie could have been handled differently to give it more meaningful stakes in your eyes?

I thought of this. We know that Spider-Man, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, etc... are 99% all coming back in the next film. Would it have bothered people less if Thanos just, for example, imprisoned them and then the next movie was the OG Avengers rescuing them? That’s essentially what is happening here.

Maybe I’m weird, but it does not bother me in the least to think of it that way.

  22. The article I posted earlier and said “this is good” has some. Or go read the the Spider-Man thread where it has a looooooot of my thoughts on Peter and that character specifically. I’ve done that plenty already. There’s no character I’ve written more about than Spider-Man in the MCU.

The simple answer however is don’t “kill” someone you’re going to bring back. Have the conviction to do that and it immediately has stakes.

I can definitely get behind it being dumb to kill people who we already know will come back. That's my biggest, and probably only, complaint of the film. Which is why I'd prefer ending it with Thanos just snapping his fingers, grinning, and disappearing.

Why did Elizabeth Olsen abandon the accent for this movie?

But if it ended like that, they would still die at the beginning of the next movie so it would make no difference.
