Was literally just about to post that. Goodbye affordable drinks and the most deafening room i have ever been in.

I remember @swboyd rejecting my Malort-a-rita like it was yesterday

omg that's so sad :( I only made it there a couple times. Maybe I'll try to get over there one more time before it closes for good

  3. I’m glad I get to play there a couple more times before it’s gone, but it’ll be a big loss for the local punk/diy scene here.

In the Tour Speculation thread somebody had posted that there was a tour in the works for 2019 from a purportedly reliable source. If they do plan on touring in 2019? I can see Riot Fest happening. Collecting a big paycheck for a 2018 one-off followed by a much larger tour.

Also: Maybe I'm giving the band too much cred, but I can see it being a "Thursday at Wrecking Ball" scenario where the band gave a soft no to an offer, the festival was persistent... And then they showed them who else they had booked that aligned with the band/who they would want to play with, and they ultimately said yes. But that's based solely on the Nick Cave rumors, hah.

Still feels like we're a few years away, and had I not read that thing in the other thread I wouldn't even be entertaining it but... Who knows?

Yea I don't know I feel like a rumor or a reunion has happened every year since they broke up, so until it gets announced, I don't really see it happening. Who knows though. It'd be absolutely awesome to get the first show back though, that's for sure.

I mean, don't headliners get like $500K+ or something like that? Seems like a good reason to me.

Yeah MCR would definitely play a festival if they got back together. The money is way more substantial

Not saying they wouldn't do a tour after or during though

I think MCR would be a perfect headliner for Riot Fest, but I don't see why they'd make it their first thing back. With the hype so big, I feel like it'd make more sense to do their own tour, and then do festivals. That's just how I've seen a lot of bands similar to them do it (Blink, Fall Out Boy, etc.)

Couldn't you make that argument for pretty much any band that reunites at a festival like that as a headliner? I think MCR is a tier below Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy in terms of popularity too. Definitely close in size, but... I don't think they have quite the same mainstream appeal those other two acts have.

Festivals just seem to be the catalyst for a lot of these things now. I can see a band like them doing a big festival show followed by a short/small run of larger club dates (that would be guaranteed to sell out instantly) and then a larger arena tour over the course of 2-3 tours.

I don't know that it's definitely going to happen, or even that I'm convinced that it could. But seems reasonable enough.

MCR was definitely as big as Blink when they broke up and they have attained a mythical status since then. If and when they come back it will be HUGE. I don’t see it being like a Misfits or Jawbreaker type of reunion with some scattered dates. I also feel like their fanbase would be the type to freak out over them playing a festival instead of being stoked about it. Probably too much drama to be their first show. I could see it happen if they play some solo dates first.

Blink was bigger. MCR was very big and successful, Blink were masssssssssive though. Their biggest album sold over 2m more than MCR’s biggest.

They co-headlined the Honda Civic Tour though, and they definitely played the same size venues around the same time on their own tours. After being away for years now they would be a much bigger deal for RF than Blink when they played.

  14. Lots of bands co-headline where one is historically much bigger.

Also they’re not playing Riot Fest.

I just said that I didn’t expect them to...

  16. And I agree. I’m just pointing out Blink were bigger than MCR.

That co headline tour was definitely an MCR is too big to call an opener but really they're the opener kind of co headlining tour. Paramore and FOB "co" headlined a couple years ago, but they are definitely not as big as FOB.

MCR is definitely huge, and their reunion will be massive. It'll be really interesting to see the general public's reception to them, especially as compared to the success of FOB's post hiatus run.

that doesn't make that much sense to me, they seem far removed from the punk scene at this point. willing to bet that whenever they play their next show, if it's not just a tour, it'll be riot fest

It’s basically all Fest fans talk about, lol. I almost never see them mentioned as hoped for other fests but that group is OBSESSED. I think there’s usually a cover set every year. RF would make me happier though since I can’t seem to make it back to Florida.
